hate me all you want, but i really enjoyed it. ray from over at torquecentral.com offered me a ride in his ls1 powered 2nd gen. smooth ,predictable power and torque at any rpm, in any gear. i expected this having driven ls1 powered cars before, but what i really was impressed with was the feel and handling of the car- felt no different than stock, even with the high mileage, stock suspension. he ran a 12.3 @ 109 last week with a stock motor, some skinny assed rsx wheels on back, in humid 90+ degree weather. the car is also very quiet, passes emissions and weighs in at ~2850 w/ a full tank.
if you are considering this swap, find someone who has done it and you will be impressed. even if you are a die hard rotary fan, get a ride and chances are you might actually like it. -garrett

I haven't ridden in one, but I know I'll like it. I'm used to the predictable power output of v8 engines, but I did give a rotary powered FD a try before I decided to build a hybrid. I love the FD but hate the engine. Gathering parts for my LS1 FD now...

Yep, silly piston guys what were they thinking putting a 370 hp reliable light engine in a good car like the RX7. I bet you they get better fuel mileage and driveablility as well. Just imagine iif the LS1 had some bolt ons or a supercharger!

i still am unsure of what to do with my fd, but let's just say that if i find a low mileage ls1/t56 combo for a decent price, it just might end up coming home with me. i love driving a powerful, turbo'd rotary, but the problems and down time is growing old.

There's very little room left over after an LS1 is dropped into an FD. You'd need an extra foot of space at the front of the engine bay before the turbos even began to fit, and there's no way the headers would clear the shock towers.
