LS2 or LS3
Has anyone ever tried to swap in an LS2 or LS3?Why does it always have to be an LS1?
is there much of a size difference?
just wondering
you can get WAY more power with an LS2 and LS3

Ls2 is becoming more common and there is a track car being built right now with an LS3....it just comes down to how big your wallet is...and how far you're willing to go with it. LS1 is just cheaper for the avg. Joe to do. There's a few LS7's floating around out there as well.
Check out JimLab, His build may be a long time coming but the cleanest and most detailed i've ever seen.

To be honest with you I think it comes down to two reasons the LS1 is more common. #1 currently it’s cheaper that the LS2 (it’s only a matter of time before the prices come down on the LS2), and #2 its more common especially with the electronics and whole fly by wire throttle body.
It is starting to become more common though, 400/400, 4” bore, and bone stock can’t beat that. I have the LS2 in my GTO and I would love to see it in a FC/FD. Holy molly, if I have traction issues in my fat pig of a car (GTO) I could not image it in a 2700 - 2900lb FC hahaha!!

LS1s are so cheap and you can buildup an LS1, even a "lowly" 1998 LS1 into an LS2 or LS3 eater for the same cost as an LS2 or LS3.
the LS2 and LS3 are so new that they are very hard to find from wrecks and they command a disproportionately large pricetag because of that rarity.

yeah the ls3 was in a jeggs magazine for like 6000 when an ls6 was in the same one for 12000
I dont know about all you guys but I dont have 6 or 12 thousand for an engine!!
Id go with the ls2

Not someone... somebody. It was damaged during shipment for the factory to the dealer. The story goes, it was damaged when it was loaded onto the railcar. Frame damage if I recall correctly. During the strap down process. Anyway the factory didn't want it back due to possible liability issues (apparently this happens more than one would think
). So it was salvaged out to a factory licensed company who removed the airbags, photographed the VIN number, then physically chopped the car in half and then it was wrote off by the car manufacturer.
I bought the LS2, Harness, T56, PCM, Exhaust, all the pedals, and complete documentation from a hotrod shop in California who specializes in custom builds. Apparently the customer changed his mind at the last minute and went with a Mopar motor instead.
It really pays to have a friend in the business.

Cheaper than one would expect. At least compared to a brand new LS2 crate motor with all the accessories, T56 tranny with stock clutch, wiring harness, PCM, exhaust system, etc., etc.
I paid $8k for the whole thing, shipped. All with 3 documented miles on it! Your over $6,500 just for LS2 with Accessories (without shipping). Start adding up the wiring harness, PCM, clutch and pressure plate, T56 tranny, Catalyic Converters (2) and you quickly surpass what I paid.
