No, hehe. Roger is in the middle of prepping for a couple of races, so it will be a couple weeks before we have anything meaningful to talk about. We're at the point now were he needs to get an actual set of rotors in his hands, which he'll get from Mazdacomp/speed USA.

Since regular joes can no longer source RZ/RS rear calipers (from Mazdacomp/speed USA anyways), I will talk to him about including that as an option in the buy.

Hey, while you're talking to him, if you could plug for RZ/RS front 2-piece rotors too, I'd be much obliged.

There's an absolutely HUGE market for the fronts-- well, okay there's SleepR1, me, and uhhh, uhhh-- a bunch of guys in Japan! Yeah, that's it-- many, many needy guys, from around the world, that really need quality 2-piece front rotors

Good point. I'd forgotten that SleepR1 got his RS brake components at the Mazdacomp discount... apparently the $800 difference is not as large as it seems? That pricing was quoted by JT-Imports, who I assume has to buy them like any other vendor, at wholesale or list price, not "racer net".

Wonder if someone with Mazdacomp access could get pricing on them just for comparison purposes?

I planned to ask them this question myself shortly.

All you gotta do is race the car twice a year and provide results; that's all there is to it. They do make allowances for people who are building cars and therefore cannot provide race results, give them a call and ask. They are really nice, knowledgable people. That way you MUST finish your car and the rest of us don't have to live with the guilt of trying to save you a buck

SleepR1, would you say the one piece rotors are a trade off beween having sufficient mass (in the big iron hats) to absorb heat from the rotor faces vs. the two piece's light aluminum hats which reduce unsprung weight (and thus improve handling)?

I totally guessing that you may not want to reduce the mass available to absorb heat by going with two piece rotors on the Spirit R/Type RS/Type RZ brakes because they are already slightly smaller than other aftermatket brakes available for our FD's. I'm no math major and don't know how to calculate mass of a disc or know the hat dimensions but here are th relevant rotor numbers:

RZ: fronts = 12.4 x 1.25 inch rotors
rears = 12.4 x .75 inch rotors

AP: fronts = 13 x 1.1 inch rotors
rears = ?
(this is kit #1 at N-tech - you can go bigger with a 6 piston kit)

Yep...with brakes it's all about heat sinking capacity...

2 piece are usually (though I am sure there are exceptions) better for these reasons:
- distort less when hot
- reject more heat (because of better cooling vane design)
- lighter

I have two peice cross drilled and sloted Z-Speed front rotors on my CRX and have never had any cracking problems.

The hat does nearly nothing for brake cooling so why not make the hat lightweight?

One might even go so far as to say a set of well ducted and cooled stock brakes might suffice for 90% of those inclined to track driving.

I can get a set of used"like new" front and rear RS breaks. This will come with the rotors, calipers, and brakets. Bolt on! I'm guessing the price would be about $1400.00 for the complete kit. Please keep in mind that it will be shipped on a container, so it will require more time. 4-6 weeks.

i don't really see the understanding between the 2 peices being less prone to warpage.

Wouldn't a 2 peice rotor have problems with the rotor and the hat expanding at different rates and being at different temperatures?

The rotor with an integrated hat stresses the rotor as it heats up and distorts the shape a bit.

I believe the 2-piece rotors slide a bit at the bolted connection point, avoiding the problems with different expansion rates. There are at least a few different designs for how they bolt together. Some designs are probably better than others in this regard. Often, some of the holes in the rotor are oval to support the different expansion rates.

I know, I let it slide for the last few weeks, been busy. I was actually thinking of it today though. I had also contacted Precision Brakes http://www.precisionbrakescompany.com/ , and they were working on a quote for me as well, but have not heard from them since the end of March.

I'm going to get with Roger again tomorrow, and get this thing rolling.
