Will race tires make a newb any quicker?

I run Toyo t1s 275r 255 f on a set of Rp01,s18x9.5 on front and rear.
My question is would i get any meaningfull benefit buying a track tire in times and feel at a beginner level?

I,m sighned up for HPDE at Mid Ohio and plan on running some ASP events and generally getting more invoved this year.
My plan was to run with the stock rims,comments ,thanks .

race tires won't help you learn.
you will learn car control best with crappy street tires.

As for times, of course you get about 2 sec advantage over street tires, but since it won't help you learn, you will tend to make mistake.

driving skill is the most important. If you keep buying nice stuff for your car before your skills are up to par with the potential of the car, you will havea difficult time becoming better

Street tire advantages over track tires:
1) they give more audible feedback when approaching the limit
2) traction is more consistent over temperature, in other words, they don't have to be warmed up.
3) they'll last longer and be more economical
4) you don't have to mess with changing them all the time, so just relax and enjoy the event.

Disadvantages:
1)street tires don't have the grip level of track tires
2)you'll feel bad when somebody pulls away from you in the turns because they DO have track tires.

I think that going to track tires is the natural progression but you should start with streets. They're easier to learn with and cheaper.

Actually, race tires will be a detriment to a newbie. The increased grip will allow you into developing bad habits and taking the wrong lines. You'll struggle to make improvements because of these bad habits and you'll literally be throwing away money (race tires wear A LOT faster than your street tires). Although I'll argue with the previous comment about warning .... race tires are generally more progressive about the adhesion limit. You'll get a little loose and still have traction as opposed to most street tires where the line between maximum slip angle and four-wheel slide is very thin.

But, the consensus is definitely on the mark. Learn with street tires first. Get all your basics right first, then start with the upgrades. If you haven't touched anything, here's my short list of what order you should go:

1) Seat time
2) Seat time
3) Seat time
4) Shocks
5) Front Swaybar
6) Race rubber

Hopefully, I wasn't being too oblivious about the important thing.

Race tires will make you faster on a auto-x course, no doubt. Been there done that.

Race tires will help you cover up mistakes on a auto-x course. Been there done that.

Race tires will prevent you from learning that the driver is far more important than the mods you have. Go to a competitive club and find that some STOCK Neon and Miata drivers are literally kicking your ***. Been there, done that.

I've been auto-xing since '96 in a decent club. I'm a decent driver running ASP. A national level driver in a NA MR2 is usually ~.5 sec behind me!

Most everybody that has posted so far is right on the money.
