I was doing some searching on wheels and it appears that the new mustang ('05+) wheels have a 5x114.3 bolt pattern with a +45mm offset. So keep an eye out for aftermarket mustang wheels (I think all the stock ones look like poo, at least on our cars). I am hoping they come out with a cobra R style wheel in the +45mm offset, I think it would look nice on an fd. Just a heads up...

Personally, I wouldn't put them on, but they're not bad looking. Remind me of SSR Integrals w/ a Cobra centercap. Do you know what they weigh?

I don't know how much they weigh, but I remember hearing that they are fairly light.

There are also a lot of replica wheels in the mustang world... some crap, some not.

Have you guys seen the Mustang GT-R (I saw in R&T mag last month) 's wheels? Multi peices. Look nice and I like it a lot.

Out of curiousity I have been keeping an eye on mustang wheels. I spotted these on www.discounttiredirect.com for $154 each:



Everything looked nice, 17x9, 5x114.3, +45mm, affordable... then I emailed about the weight... 26.0lb!! ouch. No wonder they are so cheap.

The search continues...

They just use the same pic for all sizes of that wheel. They do have 5x114.3 bolt pattern with a +45mm offset.

well for one thing the cobra weighs about 3x more then the FD and not only that the wheels will be too heavy because their about 1-2 inches wider USALLY but they put a heavier wheel on mustangs because mustangs handle like crap! they do if they have a light front end bcuz i mean if you have a light front end and much power in the rear with a rear wheel drive i mean the back end of a mustang weighs more then the front their not like mazda's they do not have 50-50 weight or as incase of a rx7 51-49 (rx8 has 50 50) so i mean they look ugly in the first place on an rx-7 not only that they are probally too wide. if not i still think they wouldnt be good (putting american brand on a import... just not my kinda thing!

For the street, who really cares? if you bend it or flat spot it on a big *** pothole your heavy wheels won't make your wallet ultralight weight when you need to go get a replacement.

40+ more pounds of unsprung weight is definitely noticeable, even on the street. But hey, a lot of owners only care about looks.

I read that the center bore (CB) is 70.3 on the Mustang, and only 67.1 for the FD RX7.

As such, 2005+ Mustang wheels will not be "hub centric", and have the possibility of extreme vibrations at speed.

Can someone please confirm ?

^ That is true in some cases that I've seen. I personally wouldn't install them without the proper hub centric rings. Check with your local wheel and tire shops for the rings.

real deal OEM ford wheels are lighter than the cheap replicas.
they dont look too bad on an FD.

I would suggest either buying or machining some hub-centric rings, just like you do for any aftermarket wheel.

However, I really feel that hub-centric rings are pretty unnecessary. The lug nuts should keep the wheel centered just fine. It's not like the hub-centric rings fit tightly over the hub anyway... I have plenty of friends who run aftermarket wheels without the rings on the street and on the track without problems.

But I use them anyway because they are so cheap. lol why not
