Maximum Wheel and Tire Width Fitment Guide for the FD

Thanks for the reply! No rubbing problems. The car is lowered with Eblach springs about 1 inch, front fenders are rolled, didn't roll the rear fenders. So far I've hit RR tracks, speed bumps and pot-holes with no rubbing anywhere.

Thanks for the reply! Just found them and ordered a set. I haven't had any rubbing problems with this fitment. The front fenders are rolled, the rears aren't. Eblach springs lowered the car about 1 inch. I've driven the RX with this setup for 2 months, hitting RR tracks, speed bumps...pot holes...no problems!!

I wanted to chime in here to give some feedback.
My favorite mod to date of everything on my car is probably wider wheels. I am running 18x11.5" +42.7mm 285/30/18 tires. the cars handles very well with this set up. I cannot stress how much doing a slight stretch of the tire onto the wheel makes for good handling. my second favorite has been 8/6 spring rate.

I did read through all 18 pages, used the Excel file, and the site's calculator under the Tools menu. My body setup:
Stock front
Pettit rear flares
Stoptech Sport Kit (no BBK planned)
Here's what I want to do, and I believe it'll work. Looking for any input on my thoughts.
Enkei PF07 w/ BFG G-Force Rival S
18x9.5 +40 fronts w/ 275/35-18
18x10.5 +15 rears w/ 315/30-18
I want that rear offset to minimize or negate the need of a spacer with the Pettit rear flares. Based on the calculators, I should get more inside clearance and fine outside clearance.
The concern I have is the tire width on the rear. I think it may be too wide for the 10.5 and these are the only off-self rim I actually like with a good width. I don't mind going more narrow on both the wheel and tire if it'll line up better with the rear flares. I'd like the tire to sit within the flares, not flush or poking out.
I would like a bit of overlap on rim lip, but definitely don't want a big bulge. I also want absolutely no rubbing on the stock front. If I need to go down on rim or tire size, that's fine. No suspension changes, links, or other issues to work around.
Any input is appreciated.

No you cannot run a 275/35-18 up front as that tire has too tall an outer diameter.
It will catch the rear of the front fender opening and rub on the fender liner as well as catch the outside of the fender lip when turning.
You can run "some" 265/35-18 (under 25.4" tall) or you can run a 285/30-18 or 295/30-18 up front.
If you ran that 265/30-18 on an 18xwhatever width +40 you would need to run at least -2.4 degrees negative camber (maxed camber adjusters at 25.5" to fender arch ride height) and you would have to roll the front fender lip under.
Same for the 285 or 295 except you will have to run +45 offset wheel and maybe pull the front fender with the roll.
If you don't want to roll the front fender lip under you need +50 offset up front and are limited to 265/35-18 with max front negative camber.
If you don't want to roll the front fender lip under nor run max negative camber up front you are limited to +50 offset and 255/35-18 and around -1.5 degrees negative camber.

I'm thinking the rears should come down from the 315 then. I'm only concerned about it looking lost in the rears with the flares. They came on the car but I wouldn't have done it myself.

Dear forum members,
I've bought some 18x10,5 offset 22 wheels with 245/45 tyres, but I could not fit in.
Fender lip has been cut a little bit by the previous owner. I tried to adjust camber to maximum. Stock disk brakes, stock everything at the back. I will install tein super flex later.
https://www.rx7club.com/build-thread.../#post11625083
This guy has the same wheel size at the back, and seems like it does fit without crazy camber, however mine does not fit and rubs like crazy.
Please give me some advice
Thank you!

Welcome to "stance".
Yes, that is correct. The wheel/tire you chose will "fit" with a bit more pull on the fender and add camber (I call that not fitting, but I am old).
Possible differences I see between your set-up and the one you linked-
1) The tire you chose is a performance tire and is wider per nominal size than the commuter tire on the linked car.
2) Your tire also has a "rim protector flange" so it sticks out further than the wheel than the linked car. His tire does not have that so it pulls away where the tire bead meats the wheel bead (so it doesn't stick out past the wheel).
It looks like he has more fender pull and his camber is higher at ride height from being lower (camber curve of suspension).
----------
Lots of stanced cars rub too or would if driven hard. If you gingerly drive them around on the stiff coilovers you can get by. Like I said, welcome to stance.
----------
Wrong offset.
18x11 +45 with 295/30-18 fits the same where the tire tread meets the fender and the wheel sticks out 17mm less.

This was not my original plan (I mean joining the "stance" club), but I found this set for cheap in Japan, so I searched the internet, found pictures, seemed like it fits easily.
If possible I wanted to avoid pulling the fender, I will roll at the weekend, install the teins, and will see. If still not even close to be able to fit, then I will try to sell.
Thanks again!
Cheers

Yes, the TE37 are very nice wheels.
I have 2 sets for my FC.
Unfortunately, all the JDM wheel manufacturers refuse to make wide monoblock (light) wheels with higher offsets that will actually fit the FD.
They do make 18x10.5 +40, 18x11 +40 and 18x11 +59 for Porsche, but wrong wheel stud pattern. So frustrating.
You could have 15mm thick 5x114.3 to 5x130 wheel adapters made and run the 18x11 +59 (+44 w/adapter).
I gave up and bought cheap Chinese wheels (Forgestar) and couldn't be happier. They turned out to be very light and strong as well as cheap.
There is hope the Japanese will catch up on FD wheel fitment, I just saw my first EFR powered car on Hot Version (EFR 7670 Evo) and yes, it dominated and all they could say is "Torku!" Lets hope Feed ditches the old TO4R/T04Z on the touge FD for an EFR 8374.

I'm running 17x10 +38 all around with 255 40 17 and I only needed a small roll. You should be fine.
I would suggest narrower tires for a 9" wheel width. I have a very slight stretch on mine and it is very nice to drive and very perictable. In contrast , I have a set of volks that are 17 x 8.5 and 17 x 9.5 rear with 255s from and 275s rear and it feels more like a floaty ride, less feedback. Blue T2 and lookatme suggested my fitment and I'm really glad I listened.

Those wheels will work up front, a little close on OEM fenders but you'll be ok. Esp with a little camber and a slightly stretched tire. Rears you can run a 10mm spacer all day long to flush 'em out a bit.
tire sizes it gets a bit tough, you want to stick to ~25 inch OD and avoid running taller front then rear (vice versa is OK).
Personally I think the whole 'rotating tires for extended life' on a non-daily driver is over rated. Consider a non-square fitment of 245/40 up front and 255/40 in the rear. Michelin Pilot Supersport is a great option

Did you rub?
This is the same setup I'm planning on running
I'm having a tough time spec'ing new front tires.
My wheels are
Front: 18-8.5 offset 35 - 255/35/18 or 245/35/18
Rear: 18-9.5 offset 38 - 265/35/18
Fenders are NOT rolled
Currently I'm running 225/40 front and 265/35 rear and everything is fine but I was hoping to get wider fronts. I was told 255 would work but I looked into it again and it looks like there will be some rubbing but I'm not 100% on this.
Based on the wheel sizing excel sheet
Front wheel offset (35mm)
Tire clearance, outside (0.12in.)
Tire clearance, inside (1.38in.)
It's making me start to think that 245 would even rub due to the low outside tire clearance. What do you guys think?

This guy has the same wheel size at the back, and seems like it does fit without crazy camber, however mine does not fit and rubs like crazy.
Please give me some advice
Thank you!
