Gene Felber ran an 18x11", +48 w/ 295/30/18 tire on his FD.

This required coilovers, trailing arms, conservative lowering, and trimming (not rolling) of the rear fender lip.

I just ran the calculator.

Looks like to fit 18x8.5 fronts (225) and 18x9.5 rears (265) i'll need an offset of at least 30mm of up front 40mm in the rear.

Does anyone have a setup similar to this?

The only suspension modification on it right now is H&R springs. Its going in the body shop next week so I'll have the fenders rolled if necessary.

Jimlab - This is a great spreadsheet by the way. Quick question for you though. When calculating the tire clearance outside (in.) and the tire clearance inside (in.) why do add 1 in. to the selected wheel width? I understand the tire widths you have selected are approx. 1 in. wider than the selected rim, but some exceed 1 in. while others fall below 1 in.

For example:

Wheel Width: 8in = 203.2mm
Tire Width: 225mm = 8.86in

Difference 8.86in - 8in = .86in < 1 in.

Wheel Width: 8.5in = 215.9mm
Tire Width: 245mm = 9.65in

Difference 9.65in - 8.5in = 1.15in > 1in.

Please correct me if I have misunderstood the calculations, but it seems in the case of a 225 tire you would have additional inside/outside clearance and in the case of the 245 tire you would have less inside/outside clearance than what is represented.

I used the chart provided and i punched in my info and came up with a 0.12 inch clearance on the outside . Long story short i cracked one of my rims and it cant be fixed . It was 19 by 9.5 with a 45 offset , its discontinued , the closest they have is a 35 offset . Will i be okay running that with trimming my rear fender a bit since 0.12 is really close ? thanks

Because the rated width of a wheel is not the distance from the outermost surface of the wheel to the innermost surface, which would include the mounting flanges. The rated width is the distance between the inside edge of each flange where the tire's bead will make contact, and the flanges extend roughly 1/2" beyond that on each side.

You'll probably need to roll or trim your fender lip, because a +35mm offset will cause the wheels to stick out ~0.4" farther than the old one did. You may be able to get by without it, but it really depends on your ride height and tire width.

+35mm would be pushing it, especially in the front. My recommendation is that you find another wheel you like that's available in a +43 or +45mm offset.

I see. So in the case where the tire is wider than the wheel, while accounting for the (1/2"/side) due to the flanges, the tire width should be used to determine clearances?

In the case where the wheel plus the (1/2"/side) is wider than the tire then the total wheel width should be used to determine clearances?

what would I need to do to fit these wheels under the FD, here are the specs
Front: 8.5x18 Offset +24
Rear: 9.5x18 Offset +25

Im about to buy some mazdaspeed ms01s in:
front: 17x8 +35
rear: 17x9 +34
Are these going to fit with no problem and fill the fender wells??

You might try using the 2 spreadsheet applications above to answer that question. Based on the "Will this Wheel Fit Question Eliminator 3000" spread sheet application, your wheels will fit just fine. You're going to have about 9mm to play with up front and about 4mm in the rear.

thanks alot for the info. You seem very good at sizing tires, will these rims sit inside the wheel arches alot or in your opinion will it look good?
