hey there guys and gals, i need to know if a 245 will fit the 8.5 inch wide wheel perfectly? i dont want it to look stretched and dont want it to look like the tire is to big for the rim. will it fit? thank you.

245/35 18 is the correct tire size, not 245/40 18

A 245/35 18 will fit fine on an 8.5" wheel.

there is probly no way a 225 is fitting on an 8.5 inch wheel huh? that will be stretched way out i bet.

A 235/40 is actually a perfect fitment width wise and, depending on the tire, will likely match up with the edge of the rim. 225/40 would be a little stretched.

1. There's really not that many sizes that fit properly on an FD, so it's not that big a deal.
2. I have a mind for numbers....just don't send me to the grocery store for three things without a list. I'd be lucky to remember two of the items...

I know theres a chance that this may not apply, but on my STI 8.5 inch stock rim, people are fitting as large as 275 tires with it looking only a tad weird, and running 255s daily with no issue. A rim is a rim, or so I think.

Wrong. Just because some people have physically done it, doesn't mean it's not stupid or poor fitment. It also depends on the aspect ratio of the tire. SUVs may run 275/60s on an 8-inch rim with no issue, for example.

The section width (sidewall to sidewall) of a 235/40R18 on an 8.5" rim is 9.5" That is the recommended wheel width of that tire size. A 255/35R18 will fit on an 8.5" rim but it would be stretched a bit. 9" would be a better fit. The 255/35R18 is also about 1/2" shorter than the 235/40R18. It is closer to stock 225/50R16 height.
A 245/40R18 would max out on a 9.5" That is also about 1/3" taller than a 235/40R18 and almost 1" taller than stock.

275/40/18 i think is too tall for fd i know 265/35/18 fits on a 9.5 wide rim

Many tire manfs allow for a 9" rim with 275/35 18s..... 275/40 18 would be way too tall.

ok... Say I have 255/40s in the back and 235/40s in the front. Rim width is unknown, but theyre 17's if that helps. I would be able to get away with running 245/40s all around, right?

The correct size in 17s would be 235/45, not 235/40. Are the rims identical width? If not, I don't know why you would want to go with skinnier tires at the rear than you have.

Because my tires are dead and I can get a set of Potenza RE010's for dirt dirt cheap in that size.
