tuning walls with SAFC NEO
hi,
i've been trying to tune my car with the neo and not having very much luck.
my current setup:
early 87 turbo car
s4 intake system/TB/sensors & harness
s5 "stock" JDM engine core 90psi+ all faces hot
rtek 1.8
walbro 255
740cc primary
1kcc secondary
new stock FPR
trailing plugs in all 4
.60 t04b hybrid/s5 turbine/manifold
3" turbo back
big frontmount
glowshift wb o2
etc...
i dont have any data logging, i'm just trying to tune for target AFR (11.5)
the car leans out @15psi ~5100-5200+rpm, but thats not my main issue
when driving the car, part throttle boost seems unuseable with the correction so high for 15psi in the higher gears (drowns the engine). i'm thinking that its because the software for correction is tps/rpm load calculated where the factory TPS reads 100% at 1/2 throttle.
anyone else have issues like this?

the one problem with the safc on a rx7 is the tps.
The tps is not as progressive as other sensors. Its almost like an on and off switch lol.
The SAFC will also ADVANCE you timing because since it changes the MAF sensor reading, the ecu thinks its seeing less air.
The rtek will retard a degree of timing for ever 1psi above 8psi, thats good for a stock turbo, but for a hybrid, thats a little dangerous.
I ran the rtek 1.8 with the safc2 years ago and had the same problem with part throttle on boost. The car would actually buck, but nothing major. I never had a fix for it, I just stopped doing half throttle in boost.

you mean see MORE air, raising the fuel correction in any AFC tuner makes the ECU "thinks" its getting more air (thus higher ID = more fuel)

With those large secondary injectors, you are pulling fuel with the Neo, thus you are 'fooling' the ECU into thinking you are on a lower throttle, thus the timing is more advanced than should be the case.
According to the pocketlogger site, 1.x pulls 1 degree of timing per psi after *9* psi, thus at 15 it only pulls 7.
One more thing: If you go above 15psi, the stock or Rtek cannot read the additional boost. So you will literally be off the map.

the car leans out above 5200-5500rpm, i have tried corrections up to +45% with the neo on top of the secondarys being oversized, i'm not pulling fuel above the secondary staging (3500rpm). according to what your saying with the AFM readings vs the timing maps this would put it to a less agressive timing map.

according to this website (no idea how reputable) it says it caps the injector dutycycle around 58-63%
the rtek 1.8 raises the primaries cap 5%, still not **** tho.
the neo would correct for more fuel but the stock ecu would still cap the injector dutycycle at that 58-63 range, screwing the fuel delivery....
it all makes perfect sense now...
