Tuning for Fuel Economy

I'd like to know if the Microtech MT-8 or Wolf3D have the tuning resolution to obtain Air/Fuel ratios of 14-15:1 at idle and under low rpm "cruise" driving?

I read on another forum that the they aren't capable of reliably doing this.

Which of the 2 computers is better? I currently know of 1 of each available to me that are second hand and reasonably affordable. Please don't start a debate about other ECUs unless you can find me one for cheap.

Daniel

I have a Wolf 3D. I drove my car with it from Spokane Washington to St Louis MO last year. I started out getting about 8-9 mpg, and after working on it for awhile I got it up into the 22-24 mpg range. The tradeoff was that it would go lean under part throttle so you wouldn't want to get all over it. But it was very smooth with that map.

The Wolf also has a closed loop mode for cars with catalytic converters. I never used this, but it might do the trick also. It basically adjusts itself to stay close to stoich. Again, not good if you want to run lots of boost, but fine for highway cruising.

Sorry if this sounds stupid, but what do you mean by "so you wouldn't want to get all over it"
Also, are you happy with the performance of the Wolf?
thanks

I have also tuned for economy because I had no boost for a while.

What Ryan, Boostd, may be speaking of is that when you are very lean in the crusing ranges when you hammer on it, any time you are in that RPM range at that vacuum it will be lean but since it is low in vacuum it should be fine.

Pretty much, you can make those EMS's make the car run great under all conditions but personally I would go with the Wolf. You can get as good if not better economy than the stock pile of junk with a good EMS.

With some tewaking and some time, you will have a great running car with good economy.
