programable vs burned computers

ok, heres my problem. I need more hp. My goal is to run low 12s in the 1/4, with seq. turbos. Should i keep on putting on mods, all the while keeping the boost down to factory levels. Once i've installed the cat back, ic, res. mid pipe, eifini y pipe etc. then go out and buy a petit ecu. Or should i go ahead and purchase a PFC, and do the upgrades and tune it as i go.

What i want it the drivability that the car has now. No 3k hesitation, smooth, does'nt foul plugs, allways starts etc. The more i read about the pfc, the more it intimidates me. Don't get me wrong, i've done programing on a efi peripheral port before, but nothing turbo'd. I'd hate to end up putting a motor in my 93.

Also does petit actually take a list of your mods, and what brand and then burn a chip for you....or do they just have a chip that they feel will work for you, and have you slap it in. If this was the case, will they stand behind there product if its running to rich? Providing you have a dyno sheet with a w.b. o2 censor. Any help would be a great help. Later, Cj

The pre-programmed Pettit chips are pretty generic. They have several stages of mods for which they have chips, but frankly, trying to make something as detailed as you suggest (brands of upgrades, etc) would be a big waste of time. Even if there were a significant difference from the tuning perspective, trying to do so would imply you're trying to live on the bleeding edge, which would be contrary to your stated goals of not blowing up your motor. Of course, you can dyno tune the Pettit ECU just like anything else, and have a custom chip burned, but of course you will pay for that, just like anything else.

I have a Pettit ECU and I'm quite happy with it. However it won't fix the 3K hesitation. I've heard good things about the PFC in terms of the hesitation, not backfiring and dirtying up the exhaust, etc. Of course, its also more expensive, and unless you really know what you're doing IMO you shouldn't be messing with the tuning yourself.

Hey!

I'm going through the same problem that you are. I already have a EFI/PFS programmable. If you don't know what the hell you're doing then I highly recommend having you ecu programmed by either Pettit, RX7Fashion, M2 or G-Force, which I'm seriously contemplating doing myself. I'm going to try to give this thing my all one more time before I finally give up on it. Also, contrary to what you may hear on this Forum, there REALLY isn't that much support for the Halltech or the PFC when compared to the EFI/PFS. Sometimes those maps can seem pretty intimidating or like a foreign language. It's no problem if your car runs a little rich. Meaning....if you get your ecu programmed for IC,DP, CAT and intake and have not gotten the IC yet, it's ok. Better safe than sorry. No one wants to blow their engine up. Good luck!

Excuse my ignorance, but what is the petit unlimited chip?

Also, how does a burnt chip go about regulating the boost? Do you just play with the pills or buy a boost controler etc? Sorry for all the questions, but I just want to know what i'm getting into before i buy something.

thanks, CJ
