Remove stock airbox, install cone adapter, install filter, start car. Shouldn't take more than half an hour.

Just get a K&N cone filter, and stick it on the AFM. What year is your car?

Its a 10 minute job. If you have an 86-88 you need to buy the afm adaptor:

Go to intakes and then its the last item.

Yes, the stock ECU will not run without the airflow meter.

5-10 hp increase is wishful thinking. More like 2 HP maybe, in cold weather, or a loss of a couple of hp if you are not going to make a cold air box.

Honestly, if this is the first mod and you just got the car, you will waste your money. That adapter costs like $20.
The open cone filters will suck in hot air under the hood. It's like 1-2% decrease in power for every 10 deg rise in intake air temp.
You could just remove the precats and have a downpipe made fairly cheap and it will be a better mod.

I guess you have conveniently forgot the increase in CFM flow over the stock air box which minimizes the heated intake temps...

Sure, the exhaust is going to give you (better) gains, but it's no where as cheap or easy to do as a cone filter conversion.

That's why you should always install a heat shield and cold air ducting at the same time. If you do this right, it's worth every penny.

Yup, a heat shield will be necessary. As for the downpipe, i am pretty sure any muffler shop will make and intall one for less than 50 bucks, if the state of georgia is not **** about emissions that is.

I KNOW I say an artical SOMEWHERE on how to make a cold air box/shield! I would just do a search to find it. It did look pretty easy! Anyway I DO have to agree with RETed and his advice does sound logical!

Perhaps this will help. http://www.fc3s.org/ click under engine than click again under COLD AIR BOX.

Wozzom had an excellent How-To for Series IV's. Don't know where It disappeared to though.

FC / FC3S - Second generation RX-7. This number / letter combo is obtained from the Chassis and VIN. It is common among all second gens.

NA - Normally / Natually Aspirated. No forced induction (ie. turbo, supercharger)

Series IV - 86-88 Rx-7 (89-92 are Series V)
