Which Toronto Area Dealers are Rotary Friendly?
I was just wondering which Toronto area dealers are rotary friendly. When I go to Oakville Mazda it's like they are doing me a favour to bring in a freakin' oil pan gasket. I would hate to try to get any Mazdaspeed parts.

The closest to me is prima Mazda and the parts guy there is useless unless you go in with the part number.
I usually go to Airport Mazda, they are very good with rotary specific parts requests.
There is a new dealer that just opened near me, Maple Mazda, I look forward to my first visit in the hopes that they are hungry for business and therefore helpful.

All my local dealers suck as well. I found one parts guy at one dealership that really likes RX7s and I always ask for him. He doesn't know a lot about them but he is always helpful. To make it easy I always go in with a list of part numbers (download the fiche online). Last time I ordered parts I got like 50 different things from small o-rings, crush washers etc. (things that don't add up to a lot of money for them, but are a pain in the *** to get together). I just emailed him the list and he ordered it up. Just make sure your numbers are right.
After my car was done, I took him for a spin and let him take it around the parkinglot a bit. He loved it... I figured since he was the only one in the whole city who went out of his way to help out.
PS... why are you using a stock gasket? Get some of "The Right Stuff" and seal it with that.

I am using 2 stock gaskets because I am using a baffle plate and I found that silicone sealers didn't give me the right crush. I could glue it all together, but the pan was like h3ll to remove the next time.
Thanks for the info.

I couldn't believe it when I went in there. The counterperson (who was soo young he had peach fuzz) acted like it was a major effort to get the fiche. Then he kept asking me over and over, like I was an idiot who didn't understand English, when I told him that the motor was an 1991 motor in an 88 car. He just kept asking over and over and over for the serial number of the car and treating me like I had an issue with my brain. I guess he was thinking that this old f@rt couldn't know what he was talking about.
I finally got the right part when another counterperson came to the window. She actually asked the right questions and we got the thing ordered.
Jeez Louise, what I had to do to give them some money.

On that note congrats to Al on his move (different dealer and manufacturer) and big thanks to him for all his efforts supporting the rotary crowd over the years. He will still be racing and participating in rotary events, no worries. What remains to be seen is if SevenStock North will continue. Hopefully!

Thanks Al for the support all of these years.
Not to take business away from local dealerships, but Eric, why not just use Mazdaspeed team support? You get exactly the parts you want without the argument, and you get access to all of the parts fiches. Even with shipping/customs etc. I find their pricing is competitive with picking up from the dealer. (Used to be cheaper before they started charging actual price for shipping.)
I think half my car I ordered from them, and to maximize my shipping costs, I'll usually top up an order with low-cost, low-weight consumable parts. (i.e. on my last order, I had them throw in a dozen oil filters and a bunch of crush washers. With the RX7, Mazdaspeed Protege and the RX8 all using the same filter, I go through a lot of them.)

I buy the scrap metal from Woodbine Toyota...I should pop in and say hello sometime. When do you start there? I'm assuming you know Amin the service manager?
Its pretty sad that Al is leaving Scarboro Mazda. I have been sitting on this news for a while and it will be a long time until a more enthusiastic Mazda dealer is found. Al helped more people out than any of us would ever know with knowledge, deals and connections. His influence will be missed.
What really p!sses me off is Mazda Canada's treatment of his efforts. I am not going to go into what he did to have Mazdaspeed North come off last summer, but I think I can say that Al made it happen with little to no help from Mazda Canada. without him I doubt it will ever happen again. As well he truly embraced the Zoom Zoom spirit in the face of some strong adversity.
I have known Al for almost 25 years and at times he can be loud, opinionated and a bit red around the neck, but at no time has he ever stopped caring. I truly appreciate what he has done for the #23 RX7 and myself and I will miss his help.
Toyota has grabbed a great spokesperson for their brand and Mazda has lost one for theirs. Best of luck with your new position, I will just have to get used to you telling me how great Toyota's are now, LOL.

Eric your a great friend and a true gentleman, I really do appreciate the kind words. I am in the process of updating the ABR site with more details. www.abrracing.com
Hey Al, I wish you all the best at Toyota. I spent 8 years with Heffner Toyota & Waterloo Toyota, they have a great product and I know with your enthusiasm you will be a valuable asset to them.
