I want to swap to 5 lug on my front rx3. Rears are already 5 lug (ford nine inch). I have a set of matching wheels I want to use. What year do I need?

 

there's more to it than just swapping out rotors and calipers. the spindles, bearings, etc. are larger on the t2. bwaits can help more with this, as could several others.

 

do tell. I need to be schooled. What all is required?

 

1. TII Calipers
2. TII 5-lug hubs with bearings
3. '84-85 RX7 struts
4. Big brake kit for '84-85 RX7: Consisiting of:
a. Caliper adapter
b. Bearing adapter for '84-85 RX7 stubaxles
c. Bearing adaptor install tool
5. Wheel spacers may also be necessary depending on wheels you choose.
( Wheel offset would need to suit a stock '84-85 RX7, but be 5x114.3. The kits are inspired by the fact that '84-91 outer front wheel bearings are all the same part.)

You can have the factory RX-3 rotors machined for a 5 lug bolt pattern. It is by far cheaper than swapping between generations.

Give Tony Negron at WWW.THERACINGSTORE.COM a call. He makes a kit that bolts right on to the RX-3 Spindle. It's all made by a company called Aerospace Components. Top shelf kit that fits very well. A bonus is that you can get them in any bolt pattern you want. 4 lug toyota, 5 lug Ford/Dodge or 5 lug Chevy. Very cool kit.

 

How safe is that? Know anyone particular who can do it?

 

Sounds nice, any idea if they have kits for RX-2s? I'm definitely tempted if so, I'll have to give him a call. I wonder if they have a bracket similar to Respeed that can adapt the rear drums to rear discs. I have the respeed kit, just not sure if it would be compatible with their big brake kits.

That's where mine are from. 12 inch discs up front, tuck nicely with a 5 bolt ford pattern.

For the amount of hassle you will go through to develop your own swap this is a far better solution.

 

There are lots of people who have done it but i personally wouldn't. IIRC Moser can do it.

What kind of shocks can you run with the racing stores brake kit?

 

I was talking to Billy at ReSpeed about my Rx2 the other day. I think he has the stuff needed to swap the front end of an Rx3 over to Rx7 so you can go T2 Big brakes 5 lug.
The Rx2 is a bit different but also can be done.

 

The Rx-7 struts just drop in to the best of my knowledge (other than adapting the brake lines). My issue was that I had to max my camberplates to get zero camber. Not nearly enough. re-speeds camber plates might be better, I have no clue on the history or quality of mine. You really just need to make a new lower control arm to give you enough camber.

 

the rx7 strut is also shorter than the rx3 but by how much i'm not sure, maybe an inch or so?
