Oh rotary god who art in heaven, give us this our daily rev to redline and forgive us for owning piston engines, as we forgive others for buying them. Lead us not into temptaion to use cheap oil, but deliver us from carbon buildups. Amen
It honestly doesn't matter. It's their car, their money, they can do whatever the hell the want with it.
But we they start talking trash about the rotary or when rotards start talking trash about V8's, I find that rather stupid.
+1, Its just my opinion.

Well as the engines become harder and harder to get good parts for, re-engine may be the only option. I half considered putting in a current 4 banger (might be too high for hood) with EFI, etc just to be able to keep the car going - but I am not there yet. I would think that a V8 would really kill the handling due to the weight.

No matter what, the sound of the rotary is half the car However, the 1650HP RX-7 on youtube does get me thinking.

true that car is sick nasty just straight silly
and i do like rotary rx7s and v8 powered ones too there all fun and each have there own qualities
I don't care either way. I love my rotary engine, if you want to ditch one for a V8, be my guest, it means your old engine is now circulating in the used market along with its parts. Yippee for me.

I just believe that all the RX series of vehicles should stay Rotaries, otherwise there would be little point in owning one?
But I have seen wonderful V8 set-ups in some Sevens and I liked them, not something I would do. But they did a good job and you can't fault them for that.

What would you say if you saw an sr20 in a cuda? 4agze in a nova? I think some things just don't belong.
With that said, its your car...
Also, more engines for sale means less people buying OEM, which means less sales for a company... It ends with the company stopping parts. (Mazda -> 12a)

Redline? Which one do you mean? The "it's in the red let off" or the "you should shift, your gauge doesn't go that high" kind?
For me, its the typical "stick a three-fiddy innit" white-trash guys that cobble together a stock iron block 350 with a 3 speed auto and big tires on it to go drag racing and otherwise be a beater that has me prejudiced against V8 swaps. It seems so disrespectful to such a cool and unique car. If its done nicely and looks somewhat thought out, I can respect it, but I'm not going to like any v8 swapped RX7.
if i pull up next to you at a red light with my steetported 13bt on 10lbs.with the motor BRAP-ing next to you.then your gonna be like what the hell is this thing! sounds like ass
then i simply just blow you away with you in your gas ass, hevy ass, unbalanced ass V8.
then your gonna be ohhh i want that

The whole point of owning a rotary powered sports car is that it's rotary powered. Rx-7's aren't the best looking or best handling cars on the planet. The C4 C5 and C6 corvette can all be built to out perform any Rx-7 for half the price so why not just drive the fucking corvette if you love pissed-ons so much. But people can do what ever they want to their own cars. There's no rules to hot rodding, it's just not my taste. If I decided I wanted a V8 I'd just buy and build a vette and It would be faster than my 7. I built my 7 because if the rotors.
edit: wrong section by the way.

Rx7 are some of the best platforms to build on. They can be had for cheap, They're light, the suspension is pretty amazing, and some people just like the way they look.
But why does it matter if somebody else mod's their car the way they want to? If you have a problem, race them.

i love how the sa fb rx7 looks like beautiful looking car i think ive bought probable around 20 to 25 of them for less than 350 bucks some running some not hell i have had 6 rx7s these past month they just seem to find me i and v8 rx7s are not as heavy as some would think weights about 100 to 150 lbs more so just dont carry your girl with yea lol but ive found it cheaper for me to build a v8 one that buying a 12a i buy engines and trans or a whole donor car for 50 to 150 bucks but i have to say rotarys are cool has hell boosted they sound awsome they just seem to be expensive to build or maybe just havent been able to find a good place for parts.
7's are built to be light and agile. That's why it's one of the few street cars classified as a front MID-ENGINE design. Slap a 350 in it and then your weight is over your front wheels and the whole balance of the car is off. I have my muscle car to be my muscle car, and I have my 7 to be my 7.

wrong. weight change is almost too close to measure depending on what you do. According to you, throwing on a FMIC would be throwing the weight balance off
At least do some research before you make the kind of comments that are floating around in this thread. Half of you shouldn't have posted because youa re just dead wrong

Uh, I actually do know what I'm talking about. The reason why rx7's have rotary engines in the first place is because the physical size of the block is small. When is the last time you looked at a v8? Massive by comparison. With a smaller sized engine you are able to fit it behind the front wheels, this places the heaviest part of the car in between the fulcrums and therefor distributes the weight evenly front to back.
What I said was placing a big v8 ends up with the engine mostly in front of the wheels, several hundreds of pounds and torquing now distributed in front of the fulcrum so that's going to add more weight to the front wheel and less on the back.
Fmic's weigh like 15lb, they aren't going to make any big effect, engines weigh a lot more. I'm not pulling this out of my ass, these are the principals of why rx-7 are designed with rotary engines.
Are you actually claiming that putting in a v8 will not chainge the rx-7's front to back weight distribution? Because if you are, please explain how you propose this to happen.

Dude, you are attempting to argue things that have LONG been found to be incorrect. What kind of V8 are you using that would be mounted mostly infront of the wheels haha.
Yep, that looks like a "massive" difference to me
And the weight difference isn't "hundreds of pounds" haha. (also confirmed by my back, the engine hoist, and the V8 I am using for mockup in my RX7 )
Go research what you are talking about and then come back here with some of your 'proof'. You are just repeating myths that have already been debunked dozens of times on THIS SAME FORUM.
Better yet, head on over to V8rx7forum.com and post up your 'thoughts' so all of us over there can get a good chuckle at them.
