Unhappy 1987 TII problems... please help a new guy out

Hey, I have two real problems with my 87 TII.

One, is sometimes when I start her, she'll sputter and put till she either dies or I pump the gas enough for her to come up to idle. It doesnt happen everytime, but when it does it can be anywhere from one false-start to four or more. I have no clue what is causing this.

Also, it's time to change the shocks/struts/springs/whatever. I dont even know what I need, and I don't have time to take her in and have the wheels pulled off to look at it. No one I know knows anything about these cars; at least not enough to tell me what I need. So, does the '87 model TII have shocks or struts? I've picked out a set of springs and shocks that claim to fit, but I have also seen struts that are supposed to fit as well. To the best of my knowledge, a car should only have one or the other, right? Not a mix-n-match of the two.

Thanks for yalls help, and if any of you guys are in arkansas, holler at me!

Absolutely normal, at least for a 1stgen RX-7.. They have struts up front and shocks and springs in the back. Now, how the 2ndgen rear IRS set-up is sprung, I'm not sure, so I'll let the guru's chime in with good info specific to your problem.

sorry, i forgot to mention earlier that it appears to have struts up front and shocks in the rear, but I'm not sure as I havent had an actual mechanic look at them.

Difficulty starting when the engine is warm is very common. The start map is on the rich side, so if the fuel system isn't in perfect condition, it'll give you some trouble. Just tap the gas and let it smooth out. If it gets really bad, you can pull the green 40A EGI INJ fuse under the hood to turn off the fuel pump. Clear the flood, replace the fuse and start it up.

For the suspension...All 2nd gen RX7s have 4 springs, 2 struts up front and 2 shocks in the rear. You can get some stock replacement KYBs and Tokicos for pretty cheap, so check out your local autoparts store's website. You can find some info on Mazdatrix's site along with higher-end adjustable struts/shocks (http://www.mazdatrix.com/h2.htm).

wow guys, thanks!

Thank yall for the help! I knew this was the place to come... not many old-school import guys around my area (I'm into old-school import cars and bikes... buying a '75 Yamaha RD 125 in the next month).

I appreciate the help folks!

While I've got yall here, I've decided to start mixing two-stroke oil in with my gas. What type is best, and what dilution ratio?
