One method of improving the rx-8 power!!!!!

>>> "KIWI-RE" <kiwi-re@kiwi-re.com> 8/26/2004 4:37:40 PM >>>

The 4 rotor kit has the following:-
1:- Eccentric Shaft
2:- Front counter weight
3:- Rear counter weight
4:- 2 x Centre plates
5:- 2 x Stationary gears (modified)
6:- 2 x Stationary gear carriers
7:- 2 x Stationary gear external oiling mods
8:- Rear main nut
9:- 2 x eccentric shaft end caps
This kit is built with all new parts and also uses genuine Mazda parts.
The kit is $8500.00 (NZ) which at the moment (27/8/04) is approx US$5500

the price for this kit from Alec Bell was quoted to me in 2004 so it might be more you can always call him and find out but there is the list for anybody interested in doing a 4 rotor .

That still does not cover some of the other custom stuff like tension bolts/studs, dowels and the list goes on!

^ hmmm with a name like 26b rx8 and with detailed knowlege of pricing I would take a guess and say you're involved in this project to also..
About a year ago I got a quote directly from Jeff Bruce, he's the machinist that kiwi gets his shafts from. Jeff's prices was diffinately cheaper than Alec and that was a complete kit with studs, machined plates etc... I have his email if anyone is Seriously interested in a kit..

Ok now that we all know the cost and where to purchase it from!
Back on topic the motor/tranny is in place or very close to where it's going to be. The placement is very good considering the length of the motor in that the front rotor housing is directly in alignment with the crossmember or just behind the centerline of the front wheels.
Pics comming soon!

... and you're in Miramar.

anyway, probably wasting my breath, but when you guys (Crispeed and 26B Rx8) get it together, please let me know. I will have completed my relocation to Miami by then(I should be moved in down there in 2 weeks), so I'd like to come over and see the tuning sessions.

WOW that thing is long.... how far back was the tranny moved? How was the balance on the scale? My engine is so far back that I had to install a filter relocation kit because the pedistal is right next to my gas pedal and the front cover lines up in the original position... Cool project, so where you gonna put that turbo?

It's only like 4-6 inches forward of the 13B. The stick is perfect in that position also. It's moved back pretty far. The rx-8 tunnel is very forgiving in that department not to mention being dry sump helps a great deal.
The trubo and the header is not that tricky. Now I have no clue where the downpipe is going to end up.
I say rear mount the turbo!!!

sounds good.... what are the plans for the other weak links, the tranny & diff? This project is a major undertaking with all the stock electronics, are you going to keep stock ECU for all that stuff?

Everything is going to function A/C, PS, ABS etc.
The tranny been taken care of allready although it's a 'X' model we'll see how far it goes. The rest of the drivetrain is going to be the last after it's almost completed.

What kind of rack you guys gonna use? I can't imagine making all this work with the stock bulky eletric steering rack of the Rx8. It's only about 4" inches in front of the Renesis.

Yes it's pretty bulky but it does offer the simplest solution for PS.
The actual factory placement and setup makes it easier to be moved forward. It's as if Mazda had the intention of putting something way longer than a two rotor in there. The tie rod arms are actually forward of the rack so by moving it to the front you basically reverse the direction of the arms without having to modify it's length. Just have to get the bump steer correct. What is bump steer BTW!

You know everytime we have an Rx8 in the air for an engine replacement, I'm always analizing stuff like this. I never even thought about moving the rack forward. I guess I'm slipping. . If yall can match the same angle when it's moved to the front, I don't see any reason for it to have bump steer.

Edit, then again the push angle is still different.

The push angle actually works out to be the same or better. On the Honda S-2000 when you do the 2jz transplant the rack ends up being in the same scenario and the power steering feel ia just like stock and you know that both the rx-8 and s2 use the same exact electric power rack.
