AZ Upgrading to a real Pump: No IC w/ T04E

Hey all. I just bought the 150 psi pump from devils own. I have been running a small injector, pre-turbo, off the windshield washer pump. It's been ok, but not great.

I have no intercooler, and summer is coming up, so I am getting prepared. I need my intake temps to drop so here's the system I am building:

150 psi Devil's Own pump
1 small injector pre-turbo
1 larger injector Post turbo (facing the the Air Filter)
Pressure sensor
1 LED when system is grounded (on)
1 LED for pressure failure
1 LED for low meth (or maybe just use the washer tank sensor)
2 or 3G tank
All wired into the MoTeC.

http://www.alcohol-injection.com/wat...i-pump-15.html

So I'll keep ya'll up to date on the system.

howard, thanks for the welcome. Being in AZ with a make-shift AI system was starting to make me nerveous.

The biggest challenge, I imagine, will be linking the pump to the MoTeC. Motec will see the AFR change, but may try to compensate the fuel injectors...

That's something to figrue out still.

hey guys, I got my system in this weekend. I was just wondering what failsafes you all are using?

How do you wire in a failsafe to the boost controller?
What if I have a boost controller built in to my MoTeC (i do)?

Thanks for the info

Here is the Boost Juice system!!!! Thought I'd share with the AI guys. System is almost complete (still need the LEDS)

Looks like it belongs in that bin, don't it!

Here is the second stage. I am running it post-compressor, pure methanol.

Here is my original AI system. It's a small injector, pre comressor, and is now spraying RO water ONLY. it will stay in tact and is activated at 1 PSI.

The second stage is wired into the MoTeC and went pretty smooth. So the MoTeC controls the AI system. Right now, the pump is on, or off. I don't yet have the ability to vary the duty cycle, but once I find the proper resistor, I'll have that ability.

Currently, the pump is activated by PSI only. Once we perfect this, we'll add RPM or EGT to the table. Also, I have a failsafe in the MoTeC that I just found... There is an overboost control that cuts fuel at the injectors, so that has been set up to go off at 20 psi.

Very nice! Keep it up. You decided to go with the smaller tank? Could you tell a difference when you went to no intercooler?

I went with the 1.5G tank. The pump mounts right on the tank, and I got a good deal on it. A freind locally was ditching this one to make his set up look nicer. We'll see how well it works...

I noticed a difference in temps right away with no intercooler... and that was when I had just the el-cheapo AI setup. I ditched the intercooler a while back, it was actually just an inter-heater.

When I was out driving it last night, I could tell a difference in the way the car responded. The turbo hit 9lbs (9lbs WG spring) REAL quick... and the exhaust was louder. Definitly a fun car to drive...

Wow fun car to drive, I havn't had that for sooo long. I too have a t04E in mind, but have not bought it yet. What do you think of it? I havn't decided to go .57 or .60 yet. I know you are only at 9 psi, but what rwhp do you think you are putting down and with the meth and no intercooler, what rpm are you at 9 psi?

If you don't want to share that information I understand, some people really would rather keep their stuff under the hood.

(update) I just saw your blogspot! I am reading it now, thanks!

cool, post again when you get through with it and I'll answer any of those questions.

I really like the boost response of the T04E. I think its a great turbo for the rotary. I have a restrictive exhaust right now, 2.5"... I am getting an exhaust cutout so when i want to race, I'll just have 3" DP wide open!!!!!!!!!!!

With that being said, I can get to 9psi around 3k RPMs. I'd expect that to drop by about 1000 with the cut out.

I think I am over 350whp, but its hard to say. I've never really been a dyno guy, but I am actually excited to get this car on the dyno once the AI is dialed in.

Awesome thanks. I have a few questions after reading through your blogspot and Yaw Powers Injector Dynamics PDF and excel example.

Did you send in your injectors to get ... "Dynamiced"? haha After reading through the PDF I think he has really sold me. I am worried though that my haltech (e11v2) will not have as many features as your motec.

What A/R ratio is your t04e? I am going to guess P trim?

What size primary injectors are you running? (and how is your idle?)

Thanks again! I'm sure I will have more to come!

I really like your setup, you should be proud of it!

I did send my inj in... LOL
I actually bought my 1600s from them, so they came with the data.
I have 550 primaries and she idles very smooth. I can get her to idle at 750 with a .88 lambda.

The turbo is a .60/1.24. I am not really sure if the Haltech utilizes deadband info, but if it does, its easy to be sold on it. After I learned about it, I can't go back.

I am proud of this set up, and thanks. Its taken a lot of time and money. I've gone through details that most people dont even know about. I wish I could've bought the MoTeC V3 but the wife draws the lines every now and then... LOL

Good luck with your build. I'd like to see it.

Well my intake temps were a bit high with the AI and we couldn't really figure out why(still better than with the stock TMIC). We tried lots of different size injectors and learned that the pre-compressor jet made the most difference. With that being said, I still wasn't impressed with the AIT. I was seeing a max of 85*C after getting on it through the gears. The temps would always raise up, but on other cars with AI, I've seen the AIT go DOWN the longer you stayed in boost...

So this weekend, we hooked both jets up to the 150psi pump. Previously, the pre-compressor jet was hooked up to the washer pump (20psi). THIS made all the difference! Temps started out at around 55*C. I started a 3rd gear pull, through 5th and the temps kept dropping down to 32*C. I got out of it, but as long as the AI was spraying, the temp kept dropping.

THIS is what I've been waiting for!!!

YA!! It's definitly great to beat the heat on a turbo car!!
I still need a reverse vented hood. But more importantly, since I am depending on AI for intercooling, I really need to get a AIT gauge and a LED to let me know if there is a major pressure change.

freaking gauges....

Still running water through the turbo?

Ohh OK, i thought you were running water on your pre turbo setup, and then added methanol after the rubo. My bad

gotcha.
I was running water/meth (25/75) pre-turbo. Now both jets are running from the same pump, the big 150psi pump!!

Is there a major disadvantage to running a water mix?

Hahaha! Liquid Heat Soaker, I love it. Can make a new acronym -- LHS.

Nah, not running it. Haven't run the air to water in... wow, several years now. I'm doing the stock top mount w/ a whole wad of alcohol.

Don't know, but by going with Rice's comments; water is way to go when doing pre turbo.
