The AFM does not measure boost, it measures volume air flow, so it does not have a "limit" as to how much boost it can sense. The limiting factor on the AFM is how much air it can meter, which you can find out by searching this forum as there's a few people who are currently maxing it out.
Up until about 6 months ago I had an Rtek 1.7 which runs 550/720 injectors. With a ported wastegate and 35mm flapper my S4 turbo would creep to around 8 psi and hold till redline. An safc was used to make the appropriate fine adjustments.
With the same setup (3" exhaust, 550/720s) I changed to a megaquirt. It was then that I could log duty cycles. By removing the AFM alone, boost went up about 7 psi. Without the AFM I am creeping to 14psi and falling off to 10 by redline. 14 psi comes in around 5500 RPM where the duty cycles were about 102% on the 550/720 setup. Since I don't have a boost controller and my boost increase is strictly on creep, I can't give any input on running 10psi with 550/720s. Being that my IDC's were beyond 100% at 14psi, I would say 550/720 combo is "safe" at 8 psi, anything beyond 8 psi I would recommend 720/720 using rtek 1.8, or 2.1.
