Well, the catback would be first for the quest for more power. A midpipe would be next if you can get around emissions and don't mind noise. You would also want to get a intake of some kind. I wouldn't do anything else till you got those things installed and get a feel for the car. Don't spend it till you KNOW what you want.

suspension, its all u need to drift. since u have 2500 u can probably get some really nice coilovers but then ur broke. u could rebuild the engine n build it up too. there's so many ways to go about this. if i were u i'd make sure it can run for a while, probably save some money up and then get some suspension n then add to the power of the car.

tires and suspension then, you can drift underpowered cars easily with good driving techniques

First, get is safetied and see what it "needs". Next, exhaust and tuning from someone knowledgeable with the car (making sure acturators work, etc etc). Finally, tires or rims if anything is left over.

You could visit Atkins for the inspection, exhaust and tune if nearby.

take your 2500 and buy a 240sx. easiest car ever to drift. i still cant get over it..
option 2 - put a 5.0 in it. theres a guy in san antonio that did it with no money out of pocket. cheap cheap power to break the tires loose.

the 240 is under powered n to swap an sr in it is 4k if u go to a good place, like unnatural inc in beaverton and they have weak front tire grip so understeer is a huge problem. i have a buncha frieds with 240's n they understeer like mad, u gotta upgrade the 240 suspension so u dont understeer. besides, fc's own.

FC-1, back [in some black]

...Dude - he's got an S5, it has *plenty* of power to break loose :P

[besides why waste such a great engine as an S5 NA..]

like everyone else is saying: do all the fluids and filters [oil change, fuel filter, coolant flush, etc] and drive it for a few months to make sure there are no problems with it

The car should handle pretty well right now, but get new suspension installed to bring it back to life.

I'm also told that a strut bar [like say for the engine compartment], will help it handle better.

Also consider this: are you going to daily drive the car? In that case you probably don't want to go too far on power mods [especially permanent changes such as porting], so you don't crush your fuel economy..

Oh and after all of that.. go pick up a couple of wheels so you can quickly switch between driving/drifting tires.. [should be cheap.. stock 16" wheels are reasonably priced]

on 2500

Dreaming! and 250-300hp will take a turbo swap. There's a pp13b here in a stripped s4 with over 200, so if you want more you need to go turbo.

just do suspension, coilovers, sway bars, poly bushings, strut bars, lsd, and mayb fd rims, your car would look hot, and handle well

first and foremost, make sure it can be daily driven n then do exactly that for a lil while. then suspension cause power is not important, thats right NOT IMPORTANT! just look at the guys in D1 with hachi's with less than 200hp, all driver skill n suspension. suspension n chasis stiffness are pretty much the best way to go for handleing and drifting
