I am stationed at Miramar (been here three months). The hobby shop is nice, but it could be so much better. In my opinion, it is very poorly run, messy, and could use an upgrade in some of their equipment. I see a lot of space that could be cleaned up and utilized in a better manner. They also only have one tranny jack (other one is down) and it is in high demand all the time (I just did two tranny jobs in three weekends). They also don't use air ratchets since they claim most users break them when they use them as hammers. Even though this hobby shop is probably the biggest, I definitely do NOT think it is the best one I have ever been to. In my opinion, the hobby shop at Quantico runs circles around this one...

Aye Charlie....what you take for granted!! Could be worse.....you could be laying in a garage with only a handful of tools trying to do the tranny. I LOVED the Hobby Shop. IMO, it's much better than doing it in a garage at home!!!

How's that new flywheel? You get that starter cable re-located? Did you get you NEO tranny fluid in?

yea that is true.. but it does beat a garage main thing i love about them is the lifts! there are many, they're the closest on base and pretty cheap to use them. it is abit messy and the equipment arent all that great but it gets the job done in a timely manner so its . i havent seen the ones in quantico but i can imagine the quality since its close to HQ yea.. havent really used the hobby shop much but i think its pretty good for having no garage.. o by the way are you the guy with the miata? im the guy with the 94 mb changing out the plugs.

^^^

That would be me...

With the help of FSAE_alum, dropped my tranny, changed the flywheel, changed the broken clutch fork and reassembled it all at the hobby shop.

Are you coming to the meet this Saturday? It's at the Fuddrucker's on Mira Mesa (in front of the Target).

well, you also have to take into account that they do not get proper military funding from MWR, they get paid like crap and this is thier weekend job. IDK, i heard the military was going to try and close them down or something
