Who runs aviation gas?

Well I just found out the next town over to me sells aviation fuel. Went by there and the guy told me its 102 unleaded and $4.50 a gallon. Just looking for some input, and your thoughts on running this fuel.....

That doesnt sound like any aviation fuel i've heard of. The most common are 100LL (leaded), 80/87(leaded), and jet fuel(not useful).

I've run 100LL in car before, a tank at a time. Doesn't really affect anything negatively. Just leaves white/gray deposits instead of black in the tailpipe. Throttle response is affected(negatively) as well as fuel economy(for the better).

I wouldn't advise it if you have catalytic converters. However, O2 sensors work OK with it(theoretically shortened life, but i haven't experienced this yet).

Well I just got back from getting the fuel and the pump guy did tell me it was low lead 100 for $3.97. A/F dropped down a lot more than I thought it would.

Yeah that's 100LL, leaded gas for sure. I did not notice an a/f drop in my car, checked with techedge wideband(under neither boost or cruise).

I use to run LL100 until i started running a wideband. It will realy shorten the life of the probe. Other than that, its pretty good fuel. Ralph at Groundzero says that its like "medical fuel", as it does'nt have any water, or other crap thrown into it. CJ

Right at the Taunton Air Port, the guy there is really great. Just brought two 5 gallon tanks and filled them up. Right now we are messing around with it in a friend of mines EVO and its great. I would rather spend the money to replace a O2 then a motor, just my 2 cents.

What I do is run 11-13psi on pump fuel, and 17 with some 110 unleaded. Price of the 110 vs LL100 is'nt a big deal, but I just hate droping 60+ bucks every 25-50hrs of driving with LL100. CJ

I would'nt worry about running LL100. Its far better than pump, with the only down side being shorter sensor life. CJ

I have been running 100LL av. gas in my set-up for 7000 miles w/ no negative problems. Obviously no o2 sensors. Just smells funky.

I am an A&P mechanic I use 100ll in my 12aSP she loves it. Certain part of the country carries different form of the LL. They are all different colors.

Yes, 100LL comes in blue, blue, and blue. But sometimes it also comes in blue, so be careful. LOL

The compression ratio on a typical lycoming O-360 is 8.5:1, it can run 100LL. That sounds pretty low to me.

Same with the color business, 100LL is dyed blue on purpose so people don't mix it up with other grades. Where is all this BS coming from?

What i've noticed running this fuel is the car idles a bit lower, and I think plug fouling could become a factor, though I have not experienced this yet.

Man for 4.50 a gallon id pony the extra 50 cents and run Cam2 114, last I looked it was about 5 a gallon off the pump at the local gas stations. And its designed for motor vehicles, not planes. Obviously there are plenty of people using 100LL but from what I understand its low lead only relative to the old aviation formula (still much higher than auto race gas) and its designed for high altitude use making it less than ideal at sea level.

Wasting your money on gas for an N/A streetported engine. Racing Beat used to use pump gas on their N/A race cars.
