Megasquirt Another newbie question
Another newbie question
I'm looking at getting the Megasquirt kit.
Where to start.
I have a 89 TII intake manifold, the one with the staged opening on the secondaries.
A 82 GSL rx-7, ie 12A 4port, NA with nikki carby.
I know I can get the intake on the engine with an easily availble adaptor locally, I also know I can get the primary injectors placed inside the adaptor I will need.
My current ignition is a DLIDFIS sorta setup, using BIM24 ignitors, and seperate sorta Bosch coils.
From the view of injecting the car, and boosting it later sort of point of view, my best option is getting a V3.0 board and using MS1?
Also is it considerably cheaper to buy the MS PCBs, and buy the components from DIGIKEY or the like? instead of buying the lot from the diyautostore.
Also I've never really read this, but is the megasquirt any good when comparing it to something like a motec or a microtech or haltech.
From my previous experience I've seen many DIY projects that smash consumer electronics costing 5 times the price, so I will believe you if you assure me its as good.

I don't think it's significantly cheaper to buy the PCB and then get the components separately... in fact, I don't think you can even buy the pcb's from B&G anymore... you HAVE to go through one of the resellers.
Jobro,
Listen to muy...buy the whole kit from one of the well-known resellers listed here:
http://www.msefi.com/viewforum.php?f=77
They buy in bulk, and sell you a complete kit for less than you could typically source individual parts, especially if ordering from Digikey, and paying separate shipping fees for parts, case, board, etc.
If you have a dizzy ignition set up and working now, I'd strongly recommend you leave that as-is. The benefits of full ignition control are small compared to the fuel side. Get the fuel side of things sorted out, and then when you are bored, look at adding spark.
