Project Kramer - *VIDEO* - High Boost

Well, from the last time I went to the dyno a few weeks ago, We were able to get 409 RWHP at 14 PSI. This was documented In this thread.

Back then, we couldn't raise the boost higher than 14psi, otherwise the ignition was breaking up. When we returned, the problem persisted - until we found out the dyno ignition pick up wire was actually causing the cross-fire. Crap!

Well, once we eliminated the dyno RPM signal wire, we were able to increase the boost:

Numbers are:
  • 336 at 9 psi (pump gas)
  • 409 at 14 psi (pump gas)
  • xxx at 18 psi (pump gas)
  • XXX at 21 psi (C-16)
The car:
  • 1985 RX-7 GSL-SE
  • Haltech E6K -Tuned by Crispeed
  • 63-1 Turbo
  • Ford 8.8 Rear End (very heavy!)
  • Isuzu NPR Intercooler (Large)
  • 720's & 1600's
  • Aeromotive 1000
Here's the video of it all:
High Resolution (89 megs) right click, and Save-As <-Thanks Vosko!
Low Resolution (Streetfire) <-56K Only (should be working soon)

Let me know what you think.

I'll post a full dyno sheet soon. The engine is definately capable of more power - We just ran out of wastegate spring. We could't run more than 20psi. Even with the Profec B set all the way. I have a 9lb spring in the Wastegate, and really should be runninng a 14+lb spring to enable higher boost.

It's all good though, and I am verrry happy with the performance, Especially
from a relatively small turbo - deisgned for street use, quick spooling.

Once again - Thanks Chris.

Hey just want to give you a big thumbs up. Those numbers are amazing for that size turbo. I have been searching for a approiate turbo now for over 2 months and still have not found that "perfect turbo". So great job on choosing the right turbo! I wish that I could decide. I guess coming from n/a v8's though makse me kin of start from square 1...

I also wanted to say that those people in the last thread saying that it was ok or just average numbers are stupid. They do not know what they are talking about! Sorry it really torqed me the wrong way. So I would like to say direct great job on the setup and crispeed great job on the tuning. All and all if I am ever down in florida I am coming to visit you cause I want a ride in that beast!

Keep me updated because you and FBturboII are the inspiration for my setup!

OMG Your car is amazing. Almost 500 hp in a 2600 lb car, man. That car should be able to pull off a 10 second quarter with slicks mabey even just the drag radials. I knew your car was outrageous before, but I never thought it would be able to do almost 500 hp on 21 psi while still having a respectable amount of torque. Will the TII tranny hold up to that?

lol...I think that there are a lot of people on this forum that really do not fully understand the rotary or cars in general and even less on this section that know rew/re engines...I am one of them

Hey all we can say is 700 hp is possible if you have a turbo the size of my head and no stock twins can't hit 700 It would be great if they could though! No one would be upgrading to a large single!

keep on reading! The learning never stops!

that is BY FAR the best first gen i have ever seen. the only ones that can rival it are the renesis and the 20b first gens. you car is what i hope to be able to build one day, with a few differences. i give you major props on the car. have you taken it to a road course yet? if so, how does it do handling wise? what level of boost do you usually run before it gets to where you cant handle the curves?

13b Making 700 hp with a single turbo has happened??? Need proof check out
Most Powerful 13B?
Hyperrev- 700PS 13B (640x480)
Hyper rev magazine 700ps RX7 (640x480) 700PS RX7 (640x320)
700ps 13B RX7
(640x320) 700PS 13B (640x480)
700ps 13B
(640x480) Japanese Specifications (640x480)
Specifications (in Japanese) (640x480)

This FD3S (3rd generation) RX7 is made by a company called Esprit.
It is powered by a 13B-REW engine which the modifiers claim makes 700ps (ps is 'metric horsepower', and is measured differently - probably about 650 SAE horsepower).

Turbo: Single T78 @ 1.5 kg/cm (21 PSI boost)
Muffler: Stock
Computer: Stock
Injectors: Six 550cc and Six 440cc

It also features a lot of HKS equipment such as boost controller, auxiliary fuel computer.
It is a pricey conversion at over $US 10k as you could build a 20B for the same price.
The car is on page 49 of the Japanese book 'Hyper-rev RX7 FC3S & FD3S', published in 1992 in Japan. This book is available from time to time in Japan and is a Japanese RX7 fan's bible. Unfortunately it is virtually impossible to get outside Japan.

There is another 13B of comparable power made by a company called 'Scoot'. It uses a peripheral port and single turbo.
Pictures captured from a video that's on the web. There's 3 guys sitting on the back of the car to try and help traction on the dyno!
(Update Dec 2002 - the esprit RX7 was made in 1992, 10 years ago at time of writing. this was leading edge at the time at it took until about 1999 before I heard of others making 600-700hp 13B-REW engines with mostly stock internals, I have heard reports of 740, even 800hp from a 13B-REW on nitrous. It would be feasible to set up the intake ports, turbo and fuel systems for 900hp although this is really in exploding engine territory)

How heavy is the Ford 8.8 as compared to the stock GSL-SE rear end? It took me and one other dude to carry one around.
