Vacuum hoses, how many of what size?

If I wanted to replace ALL vacuum hoses in my 12A engine, rat's nest included, does anyone know how many feet of what diameters do I need?

Yeap I have read that post when I did my search thanks, but it doesn't answer my question. I will probably order from that guy but I want to know exactly how much I need of which diameters. Thus this thread. I'm sure someone knows the answer. Cough it up!

Look at the rats nest tutorial RX7Carl and pratch put together. I believe there's a link to it from the FAQ page, if you haven't seen it already. It'll tell you what sizes you need and the amount of hose needed to do it without the rats nest. You'll need more hose, of course, since you're retaining the nest. I'd guess another 3 - 4 meters of the smaller diameter hose and another meter or so of the larger hose. I just bought mine in bulk from a hardware store. It was pretty cheap. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

The main problem I find is that the hose Carl refers to is in American measure, and the hose Mazdatrix sells in cool colours is in Metric measure.

I, too, am curious as to how much vacuum hose of what *metric* sizes it would take to re-do the rat's nest. Methinks I'm gonna leave the nest on for another summer until I get rid of my cats, so that I can do the whole tutorial at once. In the meantime, I think a blue nest would look cool.

So does anyone have a proper clue as to how much hose is needed? If anyone has a removed rat's nest (*cough* Carl ) maybe they could line up all the little bits of hose and tell us the approx measure.

I'm thinking of using the "Medium Blue" found here:
http://www.mazdatrix.com/C-SILHOS.HTM

I really don't care if I get extra hose (ie: a high ballpark estimate of the length I need), I just need to know what metric diameter I have to buy.

crad51 - Here's the link to the tutorial download page. http://maz_tutorials.ten15.net/

vipernicus - I have everything I've ever removed from my car, little pieces of brittle vacuum hose included. And I'll go out of my way to help a fellow Rx-7 owner. But I'm not about to collect all those little pieces of hose and measure them.

Metric equivalents:

5/32" -> 3.5 mm
5/16" -> 8 mm

That hose mazdatrix sells is cool, but 4USD/foot? I paid maybe .30 - .50/foot for plain old black hose.

I re-did my gsl-se engine w/ the silicone kits they sell in the JC Whitney SportCompact magazine.

They just give you an assortment of different lenghts and diameters. It finished most of the bay. Pretty good, not the best quality silicone tho..

Just a thought! (P.S., it was cheap)

I'm thinking of using the "Medium Blue" found here:

That is WAY expensive!! I am half of their price normally and even discount RX7club members from there.
8MM blue $4.11/ft !?!?

I have over 2000ft in stock on the 8MM. I am trying to push this item ang get rid of it quickly. It was made for Hosetechniques and is "SuperBlue". $1.00/ft for any RX7club member! I am going to be making a different shade of blue next run; all of our hose will match our intercooler hose now.

Ask Bizarro what he used. I dont think he had enough to finish the job with what he originally ordered from us.

I used mostly 3.5mm and the 6mm to do the job. I originally ordered EXACTLY what mazdatrix said I needed and it definately wasn't enough. Jim hooked me up with extra so I was able to finish the entire bay...

Check it out...

Sorry to bring this post back from the dead, but again I'm still left with the question:

How much of what size hose is needed for the 12a? I just need a rough estimate, something that I can order and be sure I'll have an extra foot or two.

And 3.5mm, 6mm or 8mm? I'm confuzzled...

Carl and Pratch use 3.5 and 8 (5/32, 5/16) but bizarro used mostly 6mm.... is it okay to use slightly smaller vacuum hose? or should it be the same size?

I placed an order about 2-3 weeks ago, but don't remember anymore what I ordered! it did left me with plenty of spare. I'll get back to you on that, I have to check on another computer that contains the e-mail with how much I ordered. I can tell you though, what I used was 3.5 mm and 8 mm.

cool I'd definitely appreciate it.

Where did you order from ? HighTemp, Mazdatrix?

And I'd appreciate knowing what it cost you, too.

Awesome Thank You *muchly*

And that did the whole 12a rat's nest? Did you have any leftover?

hmmmm... $37.80USD... After exhange and tax 63+shipping Canadian.. Ouch. And *definitely not getting Mazdatrix hose But $1/ft is a good price though, just didn't expect to need so much. It doesn't *look* like so much.

I think we should put this thread and the one that's linked to in the second post into the archive. Someone is going to want this information again at some point!

that did the whole rat's nest, and I have ~10 ft of the 3 mm and ~1ft of the 8 mm left for any future replacements.
