84/85 SE Engine Bay Dress-up picks. Got any?

Lately I have been trying to figure out what can be done to the engine bay to look clean as in:
1)Painted with matching lines/hoses
2)Simple/Simplified
3)Possibly chrome or polished metal in places.

Please post pics or send them to me ( jason@jasonguthrie.com )

I was looking at getting a chrome air intake though that is one of the smallest dress-up ideas as this is already a very simple looking area. I would like to co-ordinate the bay in black or chrome/polished (either is good). Basically the whole engine department looks OLD and USED. It may just be dirty, though cleaning has yeilded less than desired results. What can I take out, cover, or replace to make this thing look sharp. What's all this ignitor talk I keep hearing? Is that something I can upgrade that will look nice in there or just more wires? How do people get their engine bays painted?

TIA!

check Max7's (max7.rx-7.org) site. He's got a stellar engine bay. So does Jose (rotaryrx7.com). I'm slowly working on mine. Cleaning up oil and grime here, polishing this and that. No pics yet tho.

The alternator is now polished and the wiring in the top right hand corner is non existant anymore. I have to scan some new engien bay pics in....

Is that custom where it says "13B RE"? I think mine says something about the fuel injection like EGI ??? or something. That picture is pretty clean. Seems like you somehow eliminated or covered all the little wiring harnesses. Did you do all that polishing yourself?

Acually looks more like a Cosmo 13b with a T72, and maybe even a haltech

Max7....Take a photo from the front looking down into your engine bay....I'll copy it to my photo program, run down to the camera shop, have 'em blow it up to twice poster size, then tape the results over my engine bay....Take that, yuh overworked Seven screwball!

Denny, from the 'ol corncrib...:p

DAMN!!!

AJC13B thats a 3rd gen motor.... was it out of a "special model"? I've never seen that intake chamber piece look like that b4. Way nicer than the 3rd gens around here. Over here the third gen motors don't say 13B RE. Who cares!! The car looks amazing. And I love those rims, it give the car an exotic sports car look. You have a wicked car! Did you do it yourself? A job like that takes along time.

Max7.... That engine bay is immaculate!! Very nice. Here is an idea, paint the black intake tube the matching red. I did mine blue and it turned out pretty nice and it becomes easy to clean cause no dirt sticks to it. Actually forget that, It kinda looks like you clear coated it or just alot of armor all!! LOL Great JOB!!

Mine doesn't compare to that kinda work, but since that picture I've gotten a shiny new rad and the fan shroud was also painted shiny black to match and it made a huge difference.

Yah Jimmy I seen the way you painted your intake tube, and thought about it, it looks nice, but was wondering if it would be overkill and take eyes away from the polished intake

The RE engine came from the Cosmo's not the RX-7s
but the engine is very similar, Hitman I belive has a writeup for the diff between the 2 of them. I personaly like the RE look over the 3rd Gens.

I just removed a bunch of 3rd gen intake manifolding and stuff yesterday. I know for a fact that the 13B RE is from a JC Cosmo.

Yah its a JC Cosmo 13B, same car the 20B came out in.

I want my car to be different from other peoples so....

1. I use Omori gauges in my car, not Autometer.

2. I have the gold rims on my car, 90% of people here have the polished ones.

3. Most people polish their intakes. I have my intake manifold (upper and lower sections) painted a gunmetal colour, the radiator shroud, strut covers and other bits and pieces painted the same colour. I have stainless steel i/c pipes that have been polished rather than aluminium (alot easier to keep clean and shiney too!). The "13B RE" on top was painted and then then cut back so it stood out. It looks sweet in other pics which I will put up later on.

No I didn't do the polishing! Forget that!!

Thanks for all the comments guys

Nice engine bays guys. I'm super jealous now.
Max7, noticed how you moved the coolant overflow tank, neat. I always wondered what to do with mines since it seems to be on the way of the cone filter.
Thanks for the ideas guys.
Now, if only I could get my hands on a cosmo engine...
