Extended Warranties

I just bought a '93 touring with 42k miles and seems super clean. I am debating on whether or not to buy an extended warranty. Does any one have any experience with any warranty companys? I am afraid that when I need to make a claim they will just weasel their way out of it. Thanks for any feedback.

I would definately purchase it. I bought a 94 R2 with a 4 year warranty. The car had 39,000 when purchased. I had 48,000 when the apex seals went. You are correct about them trying to screw you. They tried to say my oil change receipts didn't match up with my other repairs and I didn't follow the manufacturer's scheduled maintenace schedule and the motor wasn't covered. Finally they coverered the motor and saved me 3,300. I had the motor ported, polished, hurley seals, etc. The bill was 5,400 so it saved me quite a bit. I paid around 1600.00 for my warranty. It should be around there. I will post the name of the warranty company when I can find it.
Just read the warranty policy carefully. Make sure they cover apex seals, rotor housings, all turbo parts, tranny, and rear.
Change the oil every 3,000 < and keep all maintenance receipts.

I have an extended warranty on my 95 R2, and I am glad that I do. I would definetly purchase the warranty on your car too. The company that I go through is API, I have a $100.00 co pay on anything, yes anything, that goes wrong with my car. Its great.

Exclamation

Yes, get the Extended Warranty. You never know if you'll need it, but it's good to have just in case the car has a few "hidden" problems that arise later.

If you find a company that will sell an extended warranty for a 93 buy it !!

Mine has paid for itself many times over (in the process of getting new engine and turbos).

What kind of mods will these extended warranties allow. It would seem pretty stupid to void a warranty if someone was running a boost gauge, turbo timer, upgraded radiator, aluminium ast, etc. Will any warranties allow these?

I would imagine that it all comes down to what needs to be repaired and what caused the problem.

If you have some work that needs to be done just because of normal wear on the car (say some oil lines replacement )even though you replaced the exhaust, it would be ok.

But if you destroy a motor from adding too much and running lean, then the mods would be the cause and most definitely wouldn't be covered by the warranty.
