ITA 1st Gens Alternator
i have an 81 rx7 set up for scca ITA racing. i have a question regarding alternator set up. we put in a new alternator and want to verify that it is charging. we may not be able to get track time before this weekends race. is there a simpler than stock way to wire these?
just check the voltage at the battery terminals. 12.6 when not running, about 13 when ideling, and ~14.2 when revved up to 4000rpms.
then rev it to 4 grand and turn on any accessories like electric fan, parking lights?, cool suit motor, wipers, etc.. and see how much voltage drops (shouldn't be too much).

just needs a jumper from the battery(large threaded post on alt) to the field connecter(one of the two flat spade terminals on alt). look on wiring diagram to figure out which terminal is the field. local auto parts store maybe able to help to as this is how they test rebuilt alternators.
You are looking for the "R" terminal rather than field.
Should be the top of the "T". Look at the back of the alternator where the plug goes in. The two spade terminals will make a "T" ....... - |
You want 12 volts on the top spade terminal. You want the big screw terminal to your battery through you SCCA mandated kill switch.
