fiberglass/carbon fiber hood cracking?

Has anybody had a problem with the hood cracking near the bolts from flex?

Does anybody track their car with the aftermarket hoods? I'm curious on how these hoods hold after a lot of chassis flex.

Also, how fire retardant are carbon fiber and fiberglass?

carbon fiber is very flammable but with the epoxy/resin and clearcoats, its not that bad (i mean it wont/should not just go on fire although if you light the sucker up with some gas, it will still burn!). As for gelcoat (which is usually on the bottem of a hood) I have no idea on how flammable this stuff is after it drys.

BTW: My cf hood has cracks in it (thru the resin but above the CF) in the front, above where it latches (hood latch). In anycase, thats not even 1/2 of whats fucked up with my hood but I guess you get what you pay for... The good news is that I'll be making a couple of copies out of full carbon for myself (drifting with a 1.5k hood which you will probally crash and bang up is scary ; Also, or just driving around normally and putting a car cover over a hood like that is asking for some car cover rash on that nice hood ). Plus, rock chips from friggen SUVs seem to kill the finish of any hood you decide on (you should see the amount of chips my brother's car sustained after just one explorer cut in front of him on the highway!!!). Lastly, I occationaly park where there are feral cats and they just love the warm hoods and like to claw their way up on your hood and scratch around and lay down (got a couple of deep gouges on my stocker hood on my car right now from that juabout 2 weeks ago!!!)

Looks like there are no DOT approved hoods other than stock OEM hoods.
