Who still has the metal underpan?
Who still has this on thier cars?
Does anyone know the purpose of it? It doesn't appear to have anything to do with airflow.
Can anyone shead some light on this one part?

Do you have one of the sport aero kits on your car (or at least the front part of it)? That metal underpan that you speak of is part of that kit to further enhance the effect of the aero kit. The full kit was the "side skirt" attatchments, the front bumper attatchments, the rear spoiler, and the front underpan (that you're talking about). If not, maybe someone put it on there anyway. Either way it's not a bad thing (very good actually)

There are two underpans, the plastic one and a metal (aluminium as I recall) one that goes under the oil pan.
The plastic one is absolutely required for proper cooling.
The metal one is part of the aero kit (as already mentioned) and is not really required, but is nice to have.

*Ambient temp=~30-32 deg. C, Humidity=~100%
Edit: Incidently these are the same temps I had (if not cooler) than when I had this thing on.

It's not hard to understand that without the undertray a lot less air will go through the radiator and oil cooler. Air always follows the path of least resistance, and without the undertray, that's under the coolers, not through them.

Well I wouldn't consider that fine. It's not supposed to get that high even if the engine's under load.

So the metal one is the aero kit... I see. Can anyone get silly with this and explain, what its doing? just directing air, is that all?
I thought it would be for AWD driving...skid plate..J/K

Well then...I would not say that 1/2 is fine, but hey nothing is wrong if you don't know it right
. I'd go ahead and get the other gauge just in case...undue stress on the cooling system might not hurt you while driving, but will shorten it's lifespan.
Anyway...onto the metal "skid plate" all it really does is help to streamline the underside of the car further than the plastic one does. If there is a smoother area obviously there's less turbulence and better aero efficiency. That's the short version of it, hope that helps.
