i have a first gen rx7 and have been working on unflooding it for a week now and the only thing i've been missing is the MMO or trans fluid. my question is what signifigance does this hold in the unflooding procedure and can the car be unflooded without it. the car has gas, it's getting spark and sometimes it sounds like it wants to start. i keep running my battery down and am running out of time and patience with this car.

Pull the plugs out and spin the engine over for about 10 to 15 seconds to let the compression blow the raw gas out of it. Then put some new plugs in it cause those r probably too fouled but u can try and clean them really good. After u get the plugs back in it, try to start it without pressing the gas. Then give it some gas while trying to start it.

DD-'84 RX7-streetported '74 13B, RB holley 600 carb and intake
RB header and muffler, unknown lighweight flywheel, RB street/strip clutch and PP.
When you spin the engine to let the gas out,
floor the accelerator to have as much air as possible coming in (I assume you disabled the fuel pump when you do that)
then, you poor down some motor oil right down the carb, then crank the engine some more as above
use regular oil 10w-30 or the likes, don't use ATF
then, you put back the plugs (drying them first)
then, you put back the fuel pump fuse
then, you try to start it without touching the accelerator, when it catches, be ready to down the accelerator to get it going

Ditto HUGUES remarks. I had a first gen that was on its last legs and it flooded regular due to low compression. One thing I might add is that you might try keeping a can of starter fluid handy. Spray into the snorkel and then floor the pedal and crank. Did wonders for me.
A severely flooded engine means the oil around the apex seals is washed away. You can pour say a cup down the throat of the carb, pull the fuel fuse and rotater the engine for say fifteen to twenty seconds to relube the apex seals. This means the next time you try to start the car, you will have some more compression to help start the car. Might help to wash off the lower (lead) plugs prior to trying to start the car again, because they will be fouled a bit from the oil.
Blind leading the blind... Is it a 12 or 13? If it's a 12 look for other problems. If it's a 13 then unplug the tach output on the leading coil, I think it's blue.
Some times when there is a lot of fuel in the engine...you may lose compression. Oil in side the chamber allows for a positive seal. The fuel washes away the oil, therefore u lose the compression. Pour some oil or ATF...ATF makes a lot of smoke and turn over the engine. Make sure your plugs are not oiled over or wet. The car should start after this..If not your injector or fuel system might be clogged...this wil increase fuel pressure and flood your engine.
BTW - mouse.....Why would u unplug the tach output? WTF....there are 3 blind mice...you might be one of them.
If you had a clue you'd know the tach signal on the SE gives RPM to the ECU...no rpm no fuel! How much more do you want to flood it? Duh! Of course you can tell them to hunt and poke in the fuse box looking for the right fuse but it's SOOOO much easier to just pop the hood and unplug a wire you can see easily.
I have a flooded 85 RX 12a. The fuel pump is on a switch. When I work the secondary I still see gas going into the system with the pump off. Is that from the float and should I drain that before I floor the accelerator and spin the motor without the plugs? I don't want to dump any more gas in. After that, do you wait or can you try the oil trick right away?
