Question Oil Metering Pump Two Cycle Oil Adpater...

The was a link on here earlier someone posted about an adapter plate that someone sells that you can run a tank of two cycle to the omp instead of it coming from your oil pan. I wrote down the phone # but lost it. Did a search and cant find the thread. Please help.

Try a search under forum member "DamonB". I think he started the thread.

I think this is a great idea. It makes so much sense having clean oil thrown in there. As long as the pump has some sort of warning light if it malfunctions.........

Thanks fellas.

This should be a staple mod. Like an alum AST and aluminum intercooler pipes. The only thing that is going to fail is the stock electic motor which has nothing to do with the mod. The stock system fails all the time with no warning. This mod is not idiot proof... (you could install a lowlevel light in the two cycle oil tank) but neither is the stock system. One of the main reasons this system malfunctions is cloging from the dirty oil, and this completely eliminates this. I had been looking for an adapter like that ever since I started learning about the internals of the engine. There is no reason not to do this mod. There is no reason it should not be stock...

If anyone goes this route, look for oil reservoir tanks that are made for Rotax engines. These are purpose made to feed 2-cycle oil, and usually have a low level warning built in.

The biggest thing that worries me about the whole injection system is those plastic lines to the injectors (drippers?). It looks like those would break as the age and harden. Does that actually happen very often?

Cheers,

Great info, Thanks. Yes, the injection lines break often when you go in there and remove the oil injectors or fuddle around the fuel rail. You must be very careful.

Jesse, the only thing I have not looked at yet is how hard it is to intall the adaptor with the engine in the car. It's basically a spacer and I have not looked at mine close enough yet to see how tight it will be with the OMP repositioned.

Actually the stock pump is still used, all this does is allow you to plumb an independent source to the stock OMP.

Stainless lines are the way to go

I replaced my plastic lines with stainless and they work great aswell as look cool. The only thing is its a little pricey. They cost me about 40.00 on my 3rd gen. On the second gen it'll probably be near 100.00.

I think I'd be willing to PAY for harder to break OMP lines. How much?...and link?

I'm interested in the stainless lines you used as well. I'm assuming these are braided lines, not solid stainless. How did you attach them to the injectors, just a small clamp?

I took a look at these lines when I had my UIM and rats nest out for it's recent hose job. The lines are stiff, but not discolored brown like some I've seen. They do make me nervous, especially since you won't know they're bad until it's too late. Makes me want to look into premix.

Thanks,

Garfinkle has the adapter on his 3GEN with upgraded stock turbos ,the adapter was designed for airplanes without turbos. The OMP with the adaptor hits the turbo. But all is not lost the OMP can be modified to work . this is just a heads up , this is a great mod but alittle work is needed. He has made ss lines before ,they worked well and look great, althrough they are not on the car now, Ido not know why

Well, even if you cant do it with the engine installed I'm sure the FD will find a reason for you to remove the engine. especially with the stock system.

This is the single best mod I think anyone can do to thier car.

This is a great mod, I was doing a search for that old thread and found this one. Anyone going to try to fabricate a system?

I'd feel much better lubricating my apex seals with ashless 2 cycle...instead of injecting sometimes dirty engine oil in there

When I bought my car, the OMP feed line to the rear rotor housing was broken, and "spliced" with a vacuum hose and zip ties. Gave me that warm fuzzy feeling inside. New lines for both rotors were like $40.

A warning level is not necessary at all with the RA pump setup as it uses oil at a very slow rate. Just check it every 2nd or 3rd fill up of gas to make sure the level is ok and you won't have to deal with sourcing something with a sensor in it or worry about wiring it up.

FDs have an electric OMP. RX-7s pre '89 have a mechanical OMP.

I had the adapter on my 86 RX-7 with a nice tank mounted in the engine bay. The OMP (mechanical) dripped 2 cycle oil constantly because of the high head pressure of the oil being gravity fed. I believe this was the result of a badly work OMP and it leaked where the mechanical shaft went into it that was linked the the throttle body. I eventually removed the adapter because of this. This should not be a concern on an FD though. My 2 cents.

I modded my own omp and plan to post the info soon. I have just been so busy. The pictures are resized and ready to go, so I could possible have it done tomorrow. You can see one picture of my mod and the tank I used in another thread here.

I'd just like to know why the **** Mazda went to an electric OMP in the first place. Was it for more precise delivery of oil? or was it from a profitability standpoint? (as I recall, a new OMP is around $1300 for an s5). At least the older ones were mechanical and a bit more reliable. I'm considering going premix, as my engine never smokes at all, never uses any oil, so I'm questioning if my s5 OMP even works at all.

What about a boat oil reservoir tank? You could also mod a oil catch tank but it would need a window and a fitting on the bottom.
