Unhappy hesitations... turbo spools but no go

Hi! I have a 91 TII manual. The car is stock except hks intake and exhaust. The car ran ok until today... The car is bogging when it starts moving from a dead stop. When I hit the throttle, it seem like the power slowly kicks in 2 seconds later. After the car starts moving, if I hit the throttle, The turbo spools up but the car has no power. Its almost like its choking. If I take it easy on the throttle, the car revs all the way to redline with no problem. In addition, there is continuous small "putt putt" sounds coming from the exhaust.

Do you guys have any idea what the problem might be?? Thanks in advance.

Does it still make the same amount of boost as before? Does it build slower than before?

Hows the idle? If its rough, try looking for vacuum leaks.

Did you change anything before today - gas up even? (could have a tank of bad gas)

Thanks Henrik for your input but I haven't changed anything.

However, I took a close look under the hood today and noticed what seems to be the split air valve has rusted through and air is coming out of that hole. Since the split air valve supplies fresh air to the cats, can my cats be clogged due to a shortage of fresh air? Can a clogged cat cause the symptoms described on the initial post? Any ideas, my rotary gurus. Thanks in advance for your input.

ignition. the leading plugs arent firing. your car still makes boost, maybe even more than before, im almost 100% sure thats the problem. what you've described is almost exactly what happened to me. it ended up being my HI-6 grounding out.

Thumbs up

Thanks Funklord!! I think you're right on the money. I actually found your post on the fc3s.org forum. The symptoms of my car sounded exactly like what happened to you. I tested the coils and plugs today, and discovered that the leading coil is indeed not firing. You've just solved my problem, thanks a million.
