Crank Angle Sensor (G signal)

Yet another pulsing cold idle and I'm trying to troubleshoot a couple of error codes. Cleared the error codes by disconnecting the neg battery cable overnight. Reconnected the battery cable and read the error codes before starting the engine. I get 03, "crank angle sensor (G signal), broken wire, short circuit". [Also get a 30, "split air solenoid valve", but I'll deal with that later.]

If someone can tell me how to troubleshoot the CAS/G signal error I would greatly appreciate it. Visual inspection of wiring, internal and external, did not reveal any obvious breaks or shorts. And would this "problem" affect cold idle?

TIA, Larry
