Ok so I was a dsmer before I got into this car and they had tons of what we called free mods, like hacking the mas sensor, removing sertain vac lines, taking out the stock boost controller, ect... So is there any of that for a 87 na rx-7? Idk ifit adds .5hp haha a mod is a mod.
Thanks Jordan

The best "free mod" is a complete and total tuneup, repair of all the little problems with the car, and then learning to drive the car correctly.
There are not too many truly free mods. For example, an emissions removal will give you exactly no power and may cause other problems. Cat removal requires the addition of non-free parts. Wiring open the aux ports will make the car slower.
If you have the equipment to measure exhaust gasses (or at least AFRs) then you could recurve the AFM by adjusting spring tension. The 2nd gen tends to run too rich from the factory and some power is gained by leaning wide open throttle.
Lightening is usually free, but on a non-track car, pulling out the interior and sound insulation just makes the car unpleasant.
Ok so if there are no free mods, are there any reasonably cheap mods other than exhaust and intake? I want to be able to drift this car without turboing it. And on a totally different side how much would it cost to turbo the thing using stock t2 parts?
you don't need a mod to drift it... technically, you want it right you need to spend lots of time and money. plain and simple.
it's an expensive hobby, don't expect handouts and especially with 7s always expect a problem to arise when your fixing something else. if you wanted a toy that you can fix up for cheap why didn't you get like a bicycle or a ruckus or something like that?
Dude I drove a dsm for like 4 years there is no more unrelieble car than that haha. I don't expect hand outs just pointers. Cheap for me is like 1000$ I can buy a t2 motor for that. But if I can na/t my 7 then I'm down . I know I don't need mods to drift but more power helps
You porlly need a dyno but from a rotary guru down here you can set your timing for good low end tourqe or good top end the middle is the set timing.. That's free but prolly not dyno use... and I dunno how much differance that will make
Thottle body mod is free but it sucks on cold starts..
you could cut the crush washers off the spark plugs... I did that to mine and it smoothed out my idle a lil. It brings the spark to the combustion chamber and the plugs don't hit the apex seals.
If u pm me I'll email you pics but basicly on the spark plugs there a thin washer on the treads of the plug. I read in the 2nd gen archive that you could do that..
You take out the plugs cut the washers off and reinstall the plugs. Do it one by one so you don't mix up the plugs and wires.

Wouldn't be worth it for the few HP gained vs. dyno cost and time. And moving the CAS around changes timing across the board, not necessarily what you want to do.

There are no HP gains with the throttle body mod on an NA, and only a gain of slightly crisper throttle response on the TII.

Waste of time, and the placebo effect. The marginal compression increase is inconsequential.
if you have a turbo, can't you do a home made boost controller for pretty cheap and dial up the boost? Or save the trouble and buy a manual boost controller?
Ok I get all this now haha , the question I have wanted to know is how hard is it to na/t the car? I have a shit load of good used turbos they are small and stock dsm turbos so like 15 psi tops but war all will I need and how much is a t2 turbo ?
My buddy owned a GSX and it was pretty nice. AWD turbo, 500hp. But he put a lot of time and money into the effort...Much much more than I would have for that car. I'll stick with building up my 93 R1
Wow u guys talk shit about a car that hands down is superior that any rotory on the planet including the4 rotor, and they are very good cars just shitty drivers who rat bag them blow their motors.
I knew a kid with that 24v v6 seabring.... stupid cars tranny was stuck in 2nd gear ( this was an auto) .. Dude had to n bomb it at every light.. Redline the piss out of the motor toss it to neutral and coast then do it again...... the guy and the car are a P.O.S in my book...

then why did you buy a 7 instead of buying another DSM?
F*** it, why not. I'm driving the bus to hell for the porn I've seen anyways. Christ can wash away your sins, but its all null and void when there's 2 nuns and a donkey involved.
