St. Thomas Dragway (Sparta) Friday Oct17

Me and a few guys will be going to Sparta on October 17th for "Street Legal Firdays" which is only 15$. 5$ per spectator or crew. If you feel like coming out and having some fun for that night come and join us. Invite other forums too if you can. Its always more fun when more people show up.

clubrsx.com
rx8club.com

Not sure how many of those rx8 guys will come out ... they're usually a boring group

maybe if i make this car an all out drag car i'd consider it ... but that isn't happening ... circuit track is definatly more fun. besides my supercharger will be on there next year or atleast thats the plan.

Why a supercharger? Has Mr. Cake heard of this plan?

I definately agree that a road course is 10x the fun of the drag strip. Not that the drag strip isn't fun.

There's an off chance I may go to Sparta on Friday. Not to run it's not tuned enough yet. I just finished putting the car back together 15 mins ago.

Ya Aaron has heard of my plans ... and he knows I love my headers too much to get rid of them ... just something about custom headers , according to my calculations, at 9 pounds of boost I should be about 253whp and at 12 pound 298whp. which is pretty much exactly where I want to be about 300 whp for the track and about 250 for the street. You should look up the rotrex supercharger ... you might like it

is it a centrifugal supercharger?

i never understood the point of centrifugal superchargers.
similar powerband to a turbo...but with turbos you have a lot more selection in terms of turbochargers, and usaually it's easier to fab up or bolt on a turbo setup.

Now a twin-screw Lysholm-type supercharger, that would be my choice. maybe you should look those up...you might like it.

anyway, didn't mean to thread-jack. have fun at the strip!

This is the exception to the rules as far as centrifugal superchargers power band being the same as a turbo. This is a graph from a 350z from rotrex ... if you look up all the dyno graph on the web available for it you'll see that they all pretty much look like that as in still get more power in the bottom end and alot more hp in the top end. It pretty much takes your NA hp curve move it up all across and shifts it up more in the top end.

actual here's a second one from a Honda Fit

This super charger doesn't have any gears on the inside, it has 3 rollers and a special traction fluid that give you a very linear power curve so you don't get that mass torque peak in the middle.

interesting.

so what is the advantage/difference over a twin-screw Lysholm then?
sure a twin-screw would still have more low-end boost since the Rotrex still is not a positive displacement supercharger.

I'm probably going to drop by Sparta tonight. I may or may not run the car on the track though. It's a pain for me to rent the required helmet (funny, I'm the only one told I need a helmet...) just to make a few runs...

Why wouldn't you spend the $100 and get your own helmet already? My brakes have gone all mushy, so I don't really want to go independently. However, I'd be interested in going I can be your passenger.

I'll buy a helmet soon, I just don't have one right now.

If you want to be a passenger, lets go. I can stop at your place just after 5 or shortly before 6. I'm not planning to eat, but instead head straight there.

Mushy brakes suck. Maybe they just need another bleed?

Well for all the poeple that didn't come out ... you really lost out because we had a blast. Aaron might of ruined his tranny ... but we'll have to wait to see what he says. My personal best time was a 14.6300, broken down:

Reaction - .3500
60 ft - 2.1601
330 ft - 6.1240
1/8 ET - 8.8819
1/8 MPH - 74.50
1/4 ET - 14.6300
1/4 MPH - 91.81

Not too shabby for a 12a Street Ported ... with basic bolt-ons

Yeah, it was a good night for all. Lots of fun. Also an interesting surprise to meet the owner of the turbo Mustang running on Megasquirt. Hopefully with my excellent advice (hehe) he's going to be able to fix his issues.

I don't have my timeslips handy but the best time ET wise was a 13.3. The best time MPH wise was 108 but strangely that resulted in a 13.7 ET. Sparta's timing station has always been a bit creative.

With the cool temps, traction was impossible to find. On my first run with Snrub in the car we spun 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and most of 4th. I'm surprised some other cars were able to lay down mid 12s, though I guess slicks help just a tad. In my case a burnout was necessary to keep at least some semblance of traction.

As for the transmission, after the last run it now whines a bit in 1st and 3rd. Still totally drivable but I didn't want to risk another run and be stuck at Sparta with an unmoving car. It will be fine for the rest of the season and then I'll either go TII or T56 during the winter.

Easier to make this work ... I would have to make a whole intake manifold that the charger would sit on plus a manifold to adapt the ITB's on there ...

thanks for getting us out there sam, i was able to lay down an ET of 14.56 on my first run witch made me supper happy!!! then i layed a 14.26 Et at 961MPH with a passenger
but on my ride home i started getting lots of vibrations. almost like a bent axle or bad rear end of bearings :O
looks like its time for a 8.8" rear end with LSD for my turbo FB

961MPH !!! That must be some kind of record there ... I must of missed that pass or flew by me that quick that i blinked and couldnt see you, and that probably would of ruined something out of your stock rear end ... I was wondering where you were for that 1/2 hour or so ... didn't think you could swap a jet engine in there that quick. lol

I think you mean 96.1 mph on a more serious note I think my faster MPH was like 93 something I have to look up my sheets.
