Tonight I had a funny thing happen while out in my RX-7.
My 4 year old son,and I went out to get some ice cream at the local ice cream shop in my Yellow 79 GS.We parked, and got in line. While we were placing our order a big SUV pilled up,and 6+ kids of varying ages spilled out(the oldest being maybe 9).I think everyone of them had those funny Healy shoes on,and the oldest boy was scoping out my car pretty close. We got our cones, and headed back to the car to head home to bring my wife her ice cream. When I fired up the car the oldest boy who had been eyeing the car got really excited, and told his brother/friend "Hey check out this car,it sounds like a dirt bike"
I was really amused by this, and when they asked me to rev it up I obliged, much to the chagrine(sp?) of those who were within ear or nose shot, and his mother.I had to do it though because these kids loved it.I then put the headlights on,and then they all got excited again,so I flicked them off,and on a few times to "wave"to them.As I backed out of the space the kids were egging me on to "burn out",but I thought better of that in a public place in front of a bunch of kids, and with my 4 year old with me.
I did however rev to redline after I pulled onto the road in 1st,and second gear so I guess I gave them a show. Now I know my car isn't the coolest car on earth, but these kids loved it,and so do I .I think my son liked being in the "cool car" as well.It made my day.
Chris

I know what its like being that kid in the passenger seat, having grown up with the 7 since I was born. I thought the 7 was the fastest thing on the road. I remember that smell, that only first gens have. I still smell it to this day, in both of my FB's.
Ill never forget the time my dad came to pick me up at school one day, and we were sitting in the circle waiting for our parents to come, and My dad rolled up in the FB, all the kids where like WOW, look at that car, That car is soo cool. I felt so cool saying that was my dad, and how all the kids where like wow, I felt like a million bucks that day climbing in that 7.
I remember because thats the day I fell in love with 7's
I still have that car to this day.

when my dad was the main driver of the rx-7 and i was a super youngin.. (i couldnt even see over the dash).. i remember my dad used to turn the steering wheel back and forth just to get me rolling in the seat a little.. good times
Anytime you can bring more kids and or youngsters into the game, please put the time and effort into it. I was lucky enough to have a few friends who cared enough to get me into the "vroom-vroom's" early enough in life, and I'll be doing all I can to get my kids into it when they come down the road!
I just can't wait until my nephew is old enough to ride in my car. Then I'll give him rides in it all the time as he already wants to be in it every time he sees it.
Well done, I had a 16ish year old kid approach me the other day who said he had a Prelude, but wanted a 7, either a FC or a FB. I told him if he wants a bigger aftermarket and all that cool JDM stuff to get an FC. If he wanted some simple fun and old school styling to get a FB. He told me he was going to get a FB, so my faith in the younin's is restored.
all of my friends think that i have the coolest car. b/c of this i have a hloe perpared speech on how the engine works and how its differnt then a piston engine.
my 4yo son see's a 7 on the road and says "LOOK DAD! A 7!!!"...my middle one thinks its a spy car and my 15yo would rather have the 7 than the 330xi when she turns 17...
I live in the heart of American truck country USA and my 8 year old niece already wants a 7 when she gets to 16, I can't drive to get milk without her wanting to ride along.
When my coworker gave me a good running 86 vert, I gave my son a choice- the vert or the FB. Naturally he went for the vert, I like my FB better so I was happy. What is really cool is that all his freinds in highschool were braggin about how they were gonna get their skylines(yeah, right), 240's, Supra TT's, etc, and when they ask him he just says "I already have my Rx7 convertable. They kinda get quiet and then tell him to quit talking trash. So they came over and now they don't talk trash anymore.
What I think is cool, is that my son doesn't go braggin about what he's got. He just appreciates it, and cant wait until he has his license.
We want to take both cars to some autocross and road tracks just for fun, not for competition. I think this will be a great way to teach him how the car responds and how to handle it.
My 2 younger boys also love the 7's, as does my 17 year old daughter. Wife isn't too much into cars, although she does like the vert, and she likes her little Toyota STX.
