yet again

ok, so i am going to try and explain my problem for those of you who whant to give a crack at giving me a solution. I have a 88 se and one day randomly it took a little bit to start, i was like wha?? ok something was just not right i guess. then two weeks later the same symptoms accur but iwas more potent. so on and so on it gets wers and wers. then some weeks later i would be driveing down the road and boom hlaf power and kills, i was liek wha the fu**, pop start with the rolling force, i havehalf power, and wont idle on its own, keep the R's up and she will run but like crap, rpms slowly climb but as soon as it hits 3g's boom gfull power ok so i change fuel filter, coils wires, plugs MAFS, and ecu. symptoms have got wurs. wont start alone unless puch start of flued in throttle body, ther is no short and cant find a vac leak(doesent mean its not pos. still) i need help bad cuz its at half power on all R's and backfires like hell, when i drive it like this it blows flames good oil pres temp is good, ill drive it down the road and boom ill get full power again for like 15 min then it cuts to half, then dive for like 3 hours and boom full again.

i dont think its blown or i wouldent have full power back again after diveing soo any ideas? ask any ?'s

sounds like something electrical, perhaps a pressure sensor or something electrical in the fuel system (i.e. loose injector plug)

It would help though if I could understand what you're writing.

yah im sorry i suck at writing, but any way, pressure sensor? wher is that, ant what does it do? ya umm not loos injector looked at thos not corded

you inspected ALL the injector connectors? primaries also? Did you notice any vac leaks or brittle vac lines when you had the manifolds off? And were the connectors flawless and not even brittle despite 18 years in a hot/cold and extremely volaitile environment? interesting.

The pressure sensor is on the right shock tower, its signal is part of the fuel equation for the ECU......try running with it unplugged and see if you notice any difference.

haha no, u just owned me on that cuz i didnt look at it to that extent

and ok ill try it without the pressure sencor hooked up thatnks anything els i could look at? what whould make it switch back and forth?

its hard to say, it sounds like something is keeping the secondaries from coming on - which is why I asked about the connectors. As you can imagine they are one point that is prone to failure and you really can't be sure they're making good connection without getting right at them, and no matter what else you fix, if these are the problem - it won't go away. But try running it with no pressure sensor and see if you notice a difference.

Ok, So I’m going to explain my problem for those who are willing to help me. I have a 1988 RX7 SE, and one day it was hard to start. So, I figured something wasn’t right. Two weeks after this incident, the same symptoms occurred, but it was worse. So, over time, it got worse and worse.

Some weeks later, I was driving down the road…and boom, power gone. I do a rolling start, still lack of power, and it won’t idle. I keep the revs up, but it still runs like crap, and the RPM’s slowly climb. I hit 3000 RPM, and boom, full power is back again.

I changed the fuel filter, coils, spark plug wires, AFM, and the ECU. The problem is still getting worse. It won’t start alone; you have to put some starter fluid in the throttle body. There is no short, and I can’t find a vacuum leak (although, this doesn’t rule this out).

I need help badly because it’s lacking power at all RPM, and backfires like hell. When I drive it, it blows a lot of flames, but has good oil pressure. I’ll be driving down the road, with full power, and then it just cuts down to hardly anything. Three hours of driving later and suddenly full power again.

Ok, with that all fixed up and legible...


Most likely a grounding problem. A blown engine would be lack of power, constant. Grounding problem..seems like the ground(s) that are the problems touch every once in a while. This would cause you to have full power when they do, and none when they don't.

It could also be a vacuum leak, yet if not, it's best to be able to rule it out.

I suggest you take off the intake manifolds, and order new gaskets, and a set of silicone lines. While the manifolds are off, refurbish all the stock grounds. Sand the surface the ring connector is bolted to, and sand the ring connector itself. This will insure a firm, solid connection.

wow thank you for revising for me, i dont think its a ground, becouse i only have full power above 3 grand like ill hold throttle and then hits three full power, i fether it between that ,mar k and a little bit of that, i got full power in all rpms for a couple houres or even days, but lately the window of full power gets shorter and shorter


get back to me if that could STILL be a bad ground, you guys know more about this than me so i could be wrong most def.

iv tested all fuel injectors and one of my prymarys is stuck open, could that caus thos symptoms ?? ether way ill fix it but ya is that MY prob?

well a sticky injector could have caused that for sure. It would have either made it pig rich and fell on its face or starve it and fall on its face, but may have wiggled loose again to fire properly for a while.

Definetly put in the injector and see what you get.

and for some reasonj i had the 1987 injectors in my 88 whats that about they are dif. am i rite??? correct me if im wrong and whats a good site to get new primarys and secondarys???

Geez, getting impaitient or something?
what makes you say they were 87 injectors? did you take them out of one?

Anyways, IIRC the transtion between high andlow impedance began at some wierd point in 88, its not a straigh S4-S5 thing. I don't know exactly which month that switch happens but you may have the proper setup if they are 87 injectors.

You can always check for the resistors too.

hmmm ic, so should i get the 87 injectors then??? or should i bump to the 88 injectors, and sorry not impatient. im gratfull for all the help you are giving, how do i check the resistors and what do they do? sorry...noob

Just get injectors for the appropriate year of the car, thats the best way.

You know that bumps aren't alowed in the 2nd gen technical section right?

What about the resistors? They are mounted on the wiring for the fuel injectors....look for them or for the lack of them if you wish to determine whether ot not the car has low or high impedance injectors.

my primarys and secondarys are dif sizes rite? what size are prim. and what size are secon. i tride looking at faq but it only lists one size
