car is an 82, so it takes the 12a style brake pads...

being a non FC/FD pad set, i have no idea whats offered. car will see some street use, and i'm not that good of a driver, so i need something on the milder side

How about Hawk HPS or Hawk HP Plus?

 

yeah HPS might be fine, after running the PFC's i'm not really a fan of the hawks

 

I'm running Hawk pads (forget which type) and they've been workign great for the last 1.5 years.

It just goes to show that different equipment suites different people as all people drive and maintain there cars different to others.

 

You'll want to get the HP+ if your tracking the car. They are more of a track pad than the HPS. I've been using the HPS for 4 years and they still have lots of life left.

 

we've run a bunch of different pads on the race car, we've been running the Performance Friction pads for the last two seasons, and they are amazing.

they modulate very well, and stop the car. PLUS the rotors just dont wear, AND we're getting excellent pad life. we can get 25 hours on a set of pads. the rotors DO NOT WEAR. after 25 hours of racing, there is NO lip at all on the rotors.

but they don't make pads for an FB...

 

i put Hawk HP+ pads on my Rx-7 for the first time in 2002 or so, and i have not stopped singing their praises since. i have them on the Rx-8 now and would have put them on my MR2 if they were available. i put the HPS pads on my mom's Accord. my brother thinks they are a bit much for his Accord, but doesn't mind them on his '83 Rx-7. so it's definitely not for everyone and i respect that.

i know you said you had a less than good experience with Hawk before, but i'd say give them another shot. what exactly was the problem you have, if i may ask?

 

the blues eat rotors, the shavings ruin the wheels, and the PFC's modulate better...

HPS's are much better, but ive had my cake and eaten it too!

 

oh, you had the "Blues"? yes, i heard that they are pretty rough on rotors. they were described to me as a track-only pad, so i had no need to even consider them when i need brakes for my Rx-7.

i honestly haven't checked the rotors on my Mom's Accord since i put them on about 3 years ago, not to mention, she probably doesn't drive it like one would drive an Rx-7. however, i can vouch for them not being as noisy as the HP Plus, nor as dusty, yet they seem to grip and modulate virtually the same.

 

I have been using HP+ on my '84 street car's GSL-SE brakes for about 6 years now. A couple of track days use, and mostly street driving. I finally had to put a new set in at 30,000 miles. They work well, but they are touchy about squeal on gentel street braking if you don't put shims and blue goop on the backsides of them.

 

I did apply the "goo" that came with the pads when I installed them. I've never heard a squeak out of them, so it must work. They're actually quieter than the stock organic pads that they replaced, and seem to last a hell of a lot longer. Worth the extra money for that alone, in my opinion.

 

What is a reputable company to purchase hawk pads? It sounds like the hp+ will be up my alley.

they actually made us pads in a couple of weird compounds, and we gave them a power point with lots of data.
