So I think I found out why my FC smokes a little bit at idle sometimes. And possibly why it used a quart of oil every 2 weeks...
With the car off and the gas fully disengaged (slack in the cable), the OMP rod was not going all the way back down into it's lowest position. The wiring harness was clipped up on the clip going through the bolt on the water pump housing neck, and the OMP rod was getting caught up on it. So I rearranged the wiring harness, and wha-l-a, the OMP rod can go down all the way. Plus, I'm not seeing a faint bit of oil smoke after I've been sitting at idle for 20 seconds or so.
On a good note though, I never saw any receipts for anything relating to the thermostat being replaced or anything like that, so I'm guessing that the last time the wiring harness was removed from that clip there at the water pump housing neck was when the motor was getting swapped back in 03. So for the last 43K miles, the motor has been getting just a tad more oil at idle than would be required, so if anything, it's been extra lube'd...
Little, simple fixes are nice

REPU update-
I have sent some pics to your FB page Crit. Some shots of the bare metal. I just got done laying down the first coat of POR15 paint. Probably do another coat tomorrow, as there is a 3-5 hour flash time in between coats
I will send some pics of that after the booth clears out a bit.
Slowly making progress. There is/was a TON of paint and filler in spots. Took waay longer than I expected to remove with my power tools even.

Sounds like alot of stuff, however that was just to get down and see what exactly I had to work with metal wise. The back half of the truck is now flat black POR15.
That's where you wanted me to stop yeah Crit? Now the real metal work starts with the straightening of panels and such. Gonna be a ood while still, but progress will be impressive in th net month or so on the bed.

Here are a few cell phone shots of the bed in stage 1 of too many to count
The small spot of cancer.
The POR15 coat#1
kinda blurry.
More to come tomorrow. Coat #2 of the POR is tomorrow. Then the filler and metal repair work starts.

The color that Crit has chosen thus far is a Chevy Corvette Atomic Orange.( Z06) It is similar to what I had in the FB enginebay. But a bit more pop to it. Should be sweet! I actually had one next to me today at the store. It looks awsome in the direct sunlight.
Totally wild. I didn't think Crit still had it in him, seeing he's married and all.
That truck will look great as the sun goes down on the Twisted Sisters parking lot.

Well, I'm back from a truly punishing trip to MO and KS and back to see the in-laws. 2500 new miles on Dena's brand new car. Dave, the truck looks great, and I'll catch up with you soon. That copper color's not going to change - I freaking love it.

I just has to pop in and wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. Work has been busy lately.
We have alot to be thankful for --- Michelle had her last chemo treatment today .
We'll have 18 people for Thanksgivning. Simonovich clan from the upstate NY to the SC coast coming in. Should be entertaining. In addtion to the traditioal turkey, I am frying a 2nd bird this year. It's great plan. Turkey fryer in the backyard, 2 of my brothers and my 2 sons and me monitoring the turkey, with a 1/4 keg Yuengling. If we don't burn the neighborhood down, it should be be great time.
If all goes as planned, I should have some new parts to show off at the next OGTA.
Great to see the REPU getting some TLC...

Taking a week to hit the FB. It was just starting to rot badly in its burnt state.
The start
Ugh!
After a couple hours with the DA sander and small scotchbrite discs. A couple more to go.
Better than the crispy look.

You're wearing the respirator, right Dave?
I can see it now, only this time it's going to be better...
PS. I just noticed something. Dave doesn't have a fan in his car. He drives down from N.C. in a car without a fan. Weird.

Heck yeah Ray, even with that I get major dust boogers for a week afterwards But one would be comitting bronchial suicide if you did not use a resperator. After every session of sanding I sweep up at least a 1/2- 1 inch deep pile of dust. Crazy.
Those pics make me cry. Soo much work to get back to that stage again. I clipped my harness off at the firewall. It was a melted mess of crap. Custom wiring will be needed.

Rotary fans... my lovely girlfriend gave me this present Saturday morning, wrapped up tight...
Ray, I got the same 4gb SD micro card/ adapter/ case as you did... I figured out that with that camera, you press and hold the rear button to turn it on, hold the front button to start recording video, and hold that button again to quit recording. If I remember right, you just click that front button if you want to take pictures.
Dave, the REPU looks really good. I'm sure you'll have both it and your FB finished before you know it. Are you going to finish the FB completely or just redo the engine bay and leave it at that for a while?
On another note, my grandpa found a junkyard really close to their place with 3 or 4 FC's. One may even be a fully intact S5 car... Anyone need any parts? I'll be scoping that place out soon.
And I'm glad to hear that Michelle's finished with chemo, Mike! I bet she's relieved. You guys have a great Thanksgiving.
And speaking of Thanksgiving, I'm doing that at my place this year. I've got the directions for the ham and turkey written on the back of an old piece of paper laying in the RX7's floorboard. Let's hope it all turns out well.
