Condenser needed with IGN-1A coils?
#3
The answer to the question "Will this setup work properly without the Condenser?" is "No".
The previous condenser was hanging by a single wire, and for all I know may have already been broken.
Just installed the new one, lengthening the wire and installing on a less vulnerable location on the firewall.
Fired it up, and the timing, while not quite right yet, is much improved, and the car will idle now, even with the timing locked at -5/-20 (Adaptronic).
Big difference with the new part.

Hey sorry I didn't catch this until now. Next time if you don't hear back just shoot us an email... we don't dig through the forum as much as we should as we're totally slammed for time. Yeah it's basically required for the OEM ECU and PFC, and I would assume so for Adaptronic. It's essentially a noise suppression filter.
I've seen lots of brittle ones... Mazda didn't use inferno-engine-bay rated wire, and with age those little guys do crack.
Thanks for the post and hopefully this will help someone! glad they're running well now!

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
Sorry to bring this one back from the dead (I don't have an FD either), but how exactly are these wired into the IGN-1A setup?
I'm looking for a Ceramic Capacitor on Each Coil rated at over 18v. (4 total)
I'm not sure how to wire them into my system, but they need to be as close to the coil as possible (assuming signal wire from CAS or ground).

They are wired into the power wire to the coil, close to the coils. I clipped a portion of the 2nd gen FSM. This is standard among most vehicles that require a condensor.
So the wire off the condensor is hooked to the power wire to the coils and the body of the condensor is grounded to the engine block,

What is ithis condenser story.... I just built a custom harness for my haltech ps2000 powered 20b using 6x smartcoils, i also built a totally new wire harness for the entire car, but did not use a condenser for the coils.... Is it really necessary and how do i wire it in? Didnt use one on me 13b with smartcoils and never had a problem, same thing there with the coilharness built by me and no condenser

Your harness and build is totally fine. I am using stock coils with my build and I will reuse the stock condensor. In all honestly, most of them are broken at the wire anyways, so may cars are running around without a functioning condensor with no ill effects.
