one way to find out... If your dead set on it then you may be able to pull it off with the liberty shaft upgrade. It seems to me that this is entirely possible. Ari went low 9's over a decade ago and even admitted he could have gone 8's had the trans held up. But back in those days though there wasn't much you could do to the stock trans.
when we can get better tires and newer suspension technology. with the ability to pull weight with dry carbon body panels available no class restrictions to engine size or which trans and diffs we can use. with the power we can produce now and turbo technology screaming forward. I think 8's are completely possible. If we ever get a twin clutch trans like what is in the gtr we will easily shave off the extra tenths of a second. The questions is who is going to start the new records.

with the liberty upgraded output shaft I think you can. but completely stock I doubt it. The FB weighs a lot less which isn't just going to help with acceleration it will also put less stress on the trans by launching a lighter car.

A stock TII tranny can go 8's for sure with a light body.... El pa ran 7.9 with one, rooster datsun ran 8.6 and mistica starlet ran 8.50s with a TII..
the stock FB or FD rear will have a hard time getting into the 8s with the available gear ratios.
el maniatico rx7 ran 8.30 with a heavy FB unibody with no tubs..

El fabian rx7 TII ran low 9s with a fully body car at least 10 years ago..
