walbro 450 or 400 intank plumbing question

So I am putting a walbro 450 pump in my tank. Had the old one out yesterday and am faced with a couple of options. Wondered if anyone else has fitted one and which way they went so I can decide?!
First of all the OEM oring and plastic caps don't fit on the barbed end of the walbro. Very close but I don't want to cut or do anything to the end of the pump really. I have seen on another forum someone seating the oring between the barbs and managing to push it in place on the fuel pump hanger. I am not confident with this approach as seems like the oring could blow back out at some point? I am thinking it might be best to cut down the end of the steel pipe on the hanger the oem pump fits in and then use a short section of hose and some hose clamps to connect it up?
I think I will get a rubber sleeve to go around the pump body and hose clamp it to the hanger as the oem rubber foot is again not quite the right shape. Lastly for the wiring I was going to try and take the pins out of the oem plug and get replacements I can fit on the new harness to make it plug and play. I think I prefer that route to butt connectors on the wires? Let me know how you did it if I have missed a trick!
Thank you
Lee

use gates submersible hose, cut the end off the steel pipe, slip the hose up on it with a good amount of slip-over length, then attach to pump barb. use 2x worm gear clamps on the steel hose, use 1x on the pump barb.

You may have the cut the bottom of the hanger off, so that the pump can fit, but you don't want it to low or it'll hit the bottom of the tank. Find where you want it, as low as possible, and test fit it into the tank before cutting your hose and attaching your barbs, as this will dictate your length.

Attach the pump to the hanger body with larger worm gear clamps or similar, and good idea to wrap the pump in some sort of fuel resistant rubber or neoprene to keep down vibrations. I never did this but I'd bet its helpful.

Finally run 10ga wires directly the spade connects. Use fuel resistant heatshrink over non-insulated connectors. Use fuel resistant wires. Install bulk head fittings on the tank cover for the wires to pass through.
