Oil Performance

I went to the shop and started a discussion about 2 stroke and engine oil. The owner told me about a few certain brands and his proven performance increasing advantages in some brands. I completely respect and believe his opinion on the matter(one of the best engine builders in the country) and will be making the switch to some of the brands he suggested given my budget, as my RX7 is a daily and I am a broke young adult. But I just wanted to hear if anyone else has an opinion on the matter. If anyone has personal non-anecdotal experience.

I run full premix (removed oil injectors and blocked off OMP) i've been running wal mart brand 2 stroke TC-W3, have had no issues thus far with about 1000 miles on it since i did it. Even been getting close to 17 mpg in the city

He recommends Redline first and formost but its $10 for 16oz which is alot if you daily your car. He has seen higher horsepower with this brand. Another brand was Yamalube 2R which is alot less expensive and easier to get in a store. The key he pointed out was synthetic oil is what you want. I would just premix instead of doing OMP. alil over 1 oz per gallon doesnt have to be exact I just buy a quart of oil half a quart per fill up usally my fill ups are about 14 gallons.

1000 miles isnt very long and certainly not enough time to see any long term effects of 1 oil over another especially in a street car. Honestly ive put some shitty oils in my car and my but dyno cant tell the difference If I had access/money to a dyno I would test a few different oils out. miles per gallon has nothing to due with the premix. i get 15.5 MPG and my motor has less than 6000miles and it has all new parts minus the side plates. MPG is about port size. I run 15 afrs at cruise and 3000rpm and have yet to break 16MPG.

I understand 1000 miles is not much, but my motor is all stock at 95K, i also gasket matched my dynamic chamber, upper and lower manifold and removed the 5/6th ports and have a RB Header, RB presilencer and 2.5" exhaust back to 2 magnaflow mufflers. I havent noticed any performance lose or engine running hot or anything. But its also only a daily driver, so i don't drive it hard, just the once a day redline and thats about it. I premix at half an ounce per gallon since all the reasearch i did on the board showed that was perfectly fine for a daily driver.

Woah your getting 17 MPG on a stock NA motor. You might have a leaking or clogged injectors or something wrong with the MAF. When i was NA i got a 22MPG easy, while driving the crap out of it all the time. I have the ports removed no emissions or air pump the exhaust was stock though.

On the 2 stroke point I would find whatever synthetic oil that is easy to get to and switch. Im on Pennzoil marine stuff which I read was OK before I had the discussion with my builder and Im probably gonna stick with it (MAYBE). Its blend there is no smoke no smell and cheap.

I'm getting 17 with about 80% city driving. But i agree on a leaky injector, other day it was flooded after it was warmed up and sat for 15 mins, but hasn't done it since. Just don't have the extra cash/time right now to replace them.

Experimenting at the dragstrip, I find more power up to 60:1 mix. There's a lag time of about half a tank before the effects are really noticable.

I cruise at 12.5:1 and get up to 29mpg but normally around 25mpg. I can't run it any leaner without it starting to misfire under cruise, which destroys economy.
