Why did you guys name yourselves "Ronin Speedworks?"

We went with Ronin Speedworks because of the implications of the Ronin name. "Ronin" are Japanese Samurai who had been disgraced by the untimely death of their master. This would be a mortal fault in their honor(bushido), much like a knight who let their king die. But Samurai are defined by their honor, so losing it is often worse than death. If a samurai was not to retain their honor through seppuku (ceremonially cutting out their insides in front of their peers) then the became Ronin. Ronin are therefore bad-*** warriors, but have no honor...

Applied to our hobby Rx-7 chassis we feel that "Ronin" is a good indication of the path we have chosen to support with our cars, and our product line.
Many will disagree with a change of powerplants for the Rx-7, but as times have shown, their is respect demanded by modern v-8 technology.
We are Ronin, we may have no honor, but we are keeping the Rx-7 alive. Better than that, we seek to make the Rx-7 more badass. We are not in the business about arguing about HOW to make horsepower, we are in the business of SPEED.

Speedworks indicates our need to "go faster" and push the envelope of an already exceptional vehicle.

The other question we get: What is with the funky logo?

That one is easy: So you can still see our logo if you get your car on it's lid!

Hmm..
I guess "F****N-Bad-AssSpeed-Works.com was taken then huh?..lol!
Good info about the origin of your name.
I would have thought it had something to do with the Robert DeNiro Movie.I would have shuddered to think that I had to deal with BOBBY to get parts..
I can picture him now:
You lookin at THAT?...you,LOOKIN at that?..

As Mike said, we liked the name Ronin because those guys refused to do what they were supposed to do and kill themselves when their master died. Bad-asses yes, but also disgraced because they went their own way.

We all acknowledge being into v8 swaps kind of makes us the bastard stepchildren of the RX7 world. However, Steve, Mike and I are all free thinkers enough to think choosing the name of disgraced samurai was funny. As I recall there was good food, drink, and a LOT of laughter of the day we picked Ronin as our name.

Speaking for myself, I'm a firm believer that your values will strongly influence your decisions and your decisions matter a great deal in influencing who you are and who you will become. When we created the slogan "powerful precision, masterless design" not only are we referencing the Samurai name, but we are also declaring our values... We offer power and precision from a company run by free thinkers who care about the details.

Actually the same values can be attributed to a lot of our customers. We're proud to be Ronin and we want owning our stuff to MEAN something to the folks who buy it.

-Joel

PS It also doesn't hurt that Ronin the movie is well known as having one of the greatest car chases of all time.
