R comp tire help?
Best all around (street driven best dry and wet traction) in size 195/50r15 i cant seem to find anything in that size besides the r888?

I was distinctly under the impression that R888's DON'T work in the wet.
A fast becoming UK favorite in that size is the Federal 595 RSR, cheaper, almost as much dry grip, more wet grip. The main problem with them is the supply!

Anyone have experience with the 888 or r1r, or v700, or ay otherr that could help,
I'm wanting close.to 10k miles (I know.is hard for a r) and good dry.and wet, don't care about noise, car will be spirited street drivin with weekend track days(have to dive 150 miles to track)

I run r-comp on street, no problem.
RA1 is a good dry/wet tire. it is one of the better "streetable" r-comp tire, because when it does heat-cycle out, it isn't too bad. as not much slower.
forgot to add that R888 is also a decent "street wet" tire. I would have no problem running those.
205/50-15 is more common than 195/50-15. more choices.
if you google around. 205 R888 have been on sale for ~$85

I had some Advan A032's that I ran on the street until they disentigrated.
They were loud when cold, loud when warm (but a completely different type of loud) They were great when it was warm and dry. However if it was cold, the grip wasn't tehre and if it was wet, there were far from confidence inspiring. If it was wet AND cold....forget it, safer to walk.

They can be street driven, but mileage varies from brand to brand and compound to compound.
I don't think I'd do my AD048's as a mixed use tire, but a full tread RA1 isn't a bad option. Just be aware that a lot of the full tread r-comps are designed to be used as rain tires, and will chunk easily if you get them hot when they still have full tread or near full tread on them.

If you drive r-compounds on the street for any reason other than to drive to a track day or autocross, you are 'tarded.
And even then, you should still drive to events on regular tires.
It's a waste of money not to.

for us guys thar are lazy, I garage my car, and take it out to go to an AX or to a track event, some as far as 150 miles. I drive to, race, check tire pressures, race some more and drive home. I first started with the Toyo RA1's which were progressively faster as they wore down and fastest just before chording. This compound never heat cycleled out. Then when the R888's appeared on the scene, I bought them and were faster out of the box. depending how hard you drive and camber is set according to the tire type and driving style, I was able to get 17 track days (4 to 5 sessions per day), or better yet, 70 to 80 heat cycles. these tires heat cycle, but going to an event easily on the highway does not seem to affect the tire. One must be aware that once these tires wear down, wet traction diminishes rapidly. One time returning from an event, I had to slow down to 40 mph so the car would not hydroplane. I am at an age now that I go out to have fun, not caring to be first any more. If you really want to race and compete, don't take a knife to a gunfight........... mount Hoosiers or Goodyear slicks, but then, you will have to trailer or take an extra set of wheels. the lesser compromise is: Bridgestone RE-11 or the Dunlop Dureza Star spec, both excellent street tires

R compound tyres aren't that good on the street anyway cos they need to get some heat into them before they grip. Hybrid tyres like the Dunlop star spec and their bridgstone and yokohama equivalents are the go. Im running the dunlops and they out-grip the ao-48s I had at street temps and in the wet. If you cant fit 205's maybe think about running a 5mm spacer?

Has any one used the federal 595s ? The price is awesome and with the r888s its a little bit of a hassle out here with the local suppliers with some kind of toyo racer registry .

Ok i assumed the 595 rs-r was a r compound but if there a decent tire for the price I'am game have kumho 711s but one tire is bad and looking for a low cost replacement that i can get into autocross with . Thanks

I would but they don't make kumho 711s any more there ast's which am not a fan of . Falken ze 912s are very similar in tread wear and have a 225/50 15 to match up the rear for later . But ideally would prefer something with a little bit more stick than what i have . I don't drive it to often any more and is not driven in the rain which would just be dumb .
