Any tips? Just bought a new PFC

Well I finally broke down and bought a tuned Power Fc from SR. I was just wondering if any one had any words of wisdom for me or just any thing to make me feel better about spending 1300 dollars of my money.
Thanks.

Welcome aboard.

Read the manual and learn how the unit functions.

Read many of the old post about idle problems and to fix them.

Most of your questions have already been asked and can be found with a search.

Here is a tip for you. When you first install the unit, which is extremely easy, you will notice that the idle is going to be all screwed up. Don't worry it's going to be a little scary, but this is normal. Let the car idle for about 15 minutes. Then take your FD out and drive it normal. After a few minutes drive the car pretty hard, on the highway or take it from a full stop to fourth gear. Try to do about 3 hard runs, this will let the computer learn on it's own. Good luck and have fun with your new toy.

Thumbs up

Wow I never new that just a computer would make such a difference. Also It did freak me out when the idle went all screwy on the first start up. Well just driving the car makes me know that it was a worthwile 1300. Also one question the first night I had it on the knock readings were low. The temp was about 60 out. The next day the temp dropped to 30 and I started seeing some high knock readings from about 4500 to 6000 and then the knock reading would drop back down from about 6000 to redline. Just curious if I am being parinoid, if I remember right when checking the peak hold I saw a knock reading of 102. Please let me know if this is too high. I'm kind of scared to run it hard til' I find out. I would at least like to make it to the spring before replacing the engine. Oh, It never noticably detonated (detonation I could hear, only what the knock sensor picked up).

I don't think the knock sensor is very accurate. When I first got mine I was very concerned because of all the posts here regarding detonation. I called Chris at RP from my cell phone in the car immediately and he said not to worry about it. Mine always has high readings at part throttle. it goes away at WOT. look under ETC and sesors and check out the voltage for o2 sensor. It should be higher than .9 or so. if you just got it and haven't messed with it then you are probably running rich so probably not to worry, unless with cooler temps you may be having boost control probs. do you have a boost guage? might also be a bad tank of gas. could be a loose knock sensor.

also regarding the comment to read old posts and do searches-good luck! the search function is very poor and only once in a great while will you find anything worthwhile. for example if you try to search "o2 sensor" you will find that "o2" does not meet the minimum word length criteria of 3 letters. Many of your posts will go unanswered, usually with derogatory comments about how you did not do a search, has already been answered, etc. Those people aside, there are a lot of great guys on the forum who will help out.

Enjoy your PFC! Soon you will probably get courageous enough to start pulling out some of that extra fuel. You might also try emailing some members directly for help.

Thanks for all of the info. Yes I do have a boost gauge, it is reading around 11psi the PFC is reading a peak of .73 . I didn't even think to check the O2 reading to make sure I'm not lean. A new concern of mine is that I maxed out my Injector duty at 96.8%. I about **** when I saw that, it concerns me some that this is happening a such mild boost levels. Everyone else I have read about is running over 12psi and in the lower 90's. I guess I should just order some secondaries now. Well I will tread on thin ice untill I can get some insight and call SR after the holiday.
