Me too, believe me.

Just got off the phone with Brett @ Speed For Sale.

They got the car back last week from the hydraulic shop.

The A/C and power-steering lines are on the car now.

He mentioned that he needs to make heater-core lines and then he should be able to at least bolt the engine back together.

There are some other random items left, like mounting and wiring the plastics and wiring for the trunk, but that's LOW priority.

The snow-storm we had in Georgia last week didn't help and Brett was also sick with the flu the entire week.

At least they have the car now and he said he should start working on it again this week.

....Blah... the weeks just keep going by.

On a GOOD note..

I decided to get rid of the Volk GT-C's and go a different route...

18X9.5 +12 and 18X10 +12 Rays Gramlight 57s with Titanium Lip and some Muteki "neochrome" lug-nuts to match.

Gonna run some 225/40 and 245/40 tires for a bit of a stretch.

Gonna get the fenders pulled and rolled a bit to fit as well.

I've got Tein Flex coil-overs, so I should be able to get a nice aggressive stance out of it.

Excited!

Thanks!

Speaking of which, it looks like I forgot to post pictures of the wheels after I installed them:

They stick out JUST enough to warrant a mild pull and roll, which I'm perfectly okay with.

I'm REALLY happy with the overall fitment.

:]

Unfortunately, money has kind of dried up and I owe the shop a good bit of money right now.

I've been waiting to get my tax return back (long story) so that I can pay the shop, but after that I'm gonna have to take the car home and try to finish it myself.

Once it's at least running, I'll take it back to Speed For Sale to be tuned and for anything else I absolutely can't do myself.

I'm already into the car ~$12k with Speed For Sale at this point, so yeah...gotta slow down with the spending. x_X $_$ -_-;;

I finally got the first part of my tax return which gave me enough to pay my current balance at Speed For Sale, the shop that's been working on the car for the last ~6 months or so.

Unfortunately, after having already paid the shop ~$12,XXX+ in parts/labor...they still wanted another ~$1,200-$1,500 just to get the car "dyno ready" and I simply don't have it. It's not to say that they haven't done ~$12k+ worth of parts/labor...but enough is enough. I've already spent well over $25k+ on this swap.

So!..Rather than let the car sit at their shop any longer, I decided that if they only need another $1,200-$1,500 (10-15 hours) of work to get the car running enough to be dyno-tuned...then why can't I just do it myself??

Well, not entirely by myself...my brother is a renowned master mechanic and wiring specialist here in Georgia, and he's offered to help me get it running.

According to SFS, the car just needs a few more wires done and then bolt a few things back on.

When the car arrived yesterday I was admittedly overwhelmed by the boxes of random parts and interior and exterior trim pieces (some broken...grr!)...but the more I looked at it, the more I realize just how close the car really is!

With my brother's help I'm confident we can have it running within the next few weeks. For real.

While he's working on the wiring and other items, I'll be doing some major clean-up and installing/reinstalling parts and pieces including some of miscellaneous parts I've been stock-piling over the last couple months or so... JDM steering wheel, rear-diffuser, etc...

So YEAH!

I'm just happy to have the car HOME. Just the feeling of knowing that the car is at a point now where I can control how soon it gets done, instead of waiting (and paying) someone else to do it....is just so exciting!!

SFS has offered to provide a baseline tune for the AEM to get the car fired up. Once it's at least safe enough to drive, my first plans are to get it dyno-tuned and to get a 4-wheel alignment ASAP.

So YEAAAAHHH!!!

We're in the home-stretch now! Stay tuned for some final updates as we get it running and cleaned up!

BUWAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAA I'm so excited!!!! ^.^!!!!

Update: April 30th, 2014

Made my first of MANY trips to my local Autozone to pick up some necessary shtuff.

I only have a few hand tools and ratchet sets, so I'm kind of starting from scratch when it comes to actual mechanics tools. lol? -_-;;

I also installed the JDM steering wheel that I bought a couple months ago.

Freaking Japanese VS. USDM ..things are ALWAYS wired differently and have other distinct differences from our USDM cars. It took me like 2 hours to figure out what little tricks I had to do to get it to bolt on correctly.

I think I wired up the horn correctly, but the freaking airbag wires are THE SAME COLOR!!! How stupid!! So if I end up wiring that backwards and applying battery power, I could have an airbag in my face. So, I left the airbag unwired for now... I'll see if I can find some better info on the wiring..

Next goal: Install my rear-diffuser!

Can't wait to see it installed!

Update: May 4th, 2014

Worked on the car with my brother for about ~6 hours yesterday.

He made some great progress with the wiring and feels confident that we could actually fire up the motor if we can get in another 1-2 productive days of work. There are some plumbing items we need to address like heater hoses and power-steering lines, but that shouldn't take long. Just a bunch of tedious things.

While my brother worked on wiring, I worked on installing the Shine Auto "street" Style rear-diffuser and finally installed what I like to call a "modernized" RX-7 badge. Check it out

Unfortunately, I'm going to be out of town for work till May 23rd, so that sucks. Maybe if my brother and I can work on it some more that weekend and the next weekend, it's possible that the car might be ready by June's Caffeine and Octane Meet in Alpharetta. Here's to hoping!

I'm trying to get the fenders pulled and rolled this week, so if that happens I'll be sure to post more pictures.

Stay tuned!

Interesting build, curious to see how much $ you've spent on this swap since the REW blew up?

More than it should have cost, due to having to fix a lot of the bad work that was done initially.

Doesn't matter how you wire the steering wheel in. I used this write-up to install mine.

https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati...-wheel-830139/

Also, are you going to fit your rear mud guards around the rear diffuser? It really isn't that difficult, but you do have to drill two holes. That's the only real downside.

Thank you for posting that. I need to re-wire mine when I get a chance. I didn't do it right, so the horn doesn't work right now.

I'm not sure I like the way the mud-guard overlaps the rear-diffuser, though..

rx7_SE, could you post some more shots of your setup?

Hmm..It does look pretty cool.

I guess the idea is growing on me.

I could always tape it in place just to see if I really like it before I drill holes into the diffuser.

I'm getting the fenders pulled and rolled today, so I guess I might need to decide quickly, huh? lol

Also, TonySeagle, what spoiler is that? Is it the Shine Auto "low profile" one?

If it's cheap enough, I might rock that spoiler. I don't want to reinstall my '99 spoiler until I do the widebody and re-paint the whole car.

I'm surfing around Shine Auto's site and after seeing this picture...I think I'm sold. @_@

The more I look at this picture, the more I like it.

The spoiler..the side-skirts...the black front vents..I'm loving that look!

Oh wow, and Shine Auto sells carbon fiber front vents too! I was already planning to paint mine black because one my vents is yellow right now, since I had to replace it.

I'm loving all these black accents on a white FD. That was my goal all-along... lol

What do you guys think about that roof spoiler, though?

I'm not sure how I feel about it yet.

Looks like TonySeagle and I have similar taste lol. If I didn't already have my r2 spoiler I would have installed that lip as well.

It's a shineauto low profile spoiler btw.

EDIT: I didn't like the mudguards at first but now that they're installed it looks like an OEM diffuser in person. I've had several friends think that those were OEM options.

That's exactly the look I want, too.

I want my FD to look "modernized", essentially. I want people to think it's a newer car, but I still want to retain some of the 90's characteristics like flip-up headlights. lol

With your advice and suggestions I decided to go ahead and trim the factory mud-guard flaps and re-install them. I think it was the right decision. Thanks, guys!

I had Jimmy Diaz AKA "VIP Fender Rolling - ATL" come by yesterday for a couple hours to do a mild pull and roll on my fenders. Unfortunately my front passenger fender apparently has a big chunk of metal missing that made it impossible to properly roll, so that really sucks. Jimmy did the best he could, though.

I guess I might need to do my widebody kit a little sooner than planned. Either that or buy some camber plates and run some negative camber in the front. lol

The pull is pretty subtle, not like the all-out 45-degree angled "flare" that I am used to seeing when other FD guys do this, but it should be enough to prevent me from rubbing on at least 3 out of 4 fenders. lol..

Unfortunately, looking at my wheel setup in general made me realize one future concern I have now, which is that when the guys at Speed For Sale moved my steering rack forward, they had to fabricate custom swaybar mounting brackets which now places the swaybar underneath the steering rack and removes a good ~2 inches of ground clearance. >_<!!!

My current ground clearance is now only about ~3.5" which sucks because I was really hoping to lower my car a little bit further. I'm not sure if I'm comfortable having any less than that 3.5" of ground clearance.. :/

Maybe later I'll look into other solutions to modifying the swaybar setup or if I ever go with 19" wheels then that should allow me to lower the coil-overs by another inch or so safely, I think.

Just kind of sucks. :/

Not sure I'll be able to work on the car any more this week, and then I'm out of town until May 23rd, so it might be a few weeks before any other real updates.

Nonetheless, I really appreciate your guys continued interest and support for my build.

Thank you!

rx7_SE, I really love the look of your FD. I think putting the same "Feed" style side-skirts on top of my current APEXi side-skirts will look great! I plan to have the APEXi side-skirts molded in to look like factory body lines, so I'm excited to see how that will turn out whenever I get around to it.

What's up, guys?

So, I was working on the FD a little this weekend now that I'm back in town.

I expect to have the engine by all bolted together this week. After that it's just a matter of my brother being available to come to the house and try and do the wiring.

I suspect we'll at least be able to get it fired up within one day's worth of his wiring.

I'll post some pictures of the engine bay once I have it all put together and cleaned up.

It's looking really nice, though! I think Speed For Sale forgot to powder-coat my radiator coolant line, though? >_< lol

So I've been out of town and super busy a lot lately...but this weekend we worked on the car for several hours and made a ton of progress.

Right now we're trying to start the car up but we're running into issues with making sure the AEM V2 is configured correctly for my unique 2JZ-GE NA-T setup, and seeing if any other unique wiring tweaks are necessary to get it all to work.

Here are some pics of the car I just took yesterday, though. It's really starting to come together, I tell ya!

I'm trying to paint the little side vents black right now too, but it didn't turn out the way I had hoped, so I'm gonna try again but differently.

-_-;;

Anyways...

The car is damn near able to turn over. Just gotta figure out the spark and fuel issues and make sure it's configured right in the AEM n' stuff.

Soon!
