Corvette Brakes
Hi Chris,
love the build,
I have got a question for you about the brakes, I'm building a FD3S RX8 over here in the UK and was looking at putting C6 Z06 6 pot calipers onto my build. Mad i know but i think quite cool.
I was wondering how exactly you did your brake conversion. I see you made a custom bracket to fit them onto the original fittings, CNC machined, Which if you had the spec for i love if you would send me the details on. Did you use the Corvette brake discs? If so was there much modification required? other than that anything worth noting?
If you could help tat would be great

If my memories is correct. I think Chris have a set of C6 Z06 6 pot calipers with a cnced adapter for the rx8.
he never used and had them for sale..

Heat Update
Typical of these builds heat becomes an issue. Specially on the RX-8 where the factory engine bay does not have extra space for turbo components. I found myself worrying every time I wanted to put the foot down about whether the heat of the pull would ruin something under the hood. It had already softened the sheath that was over the engine harness and with the front right brake line running in close vicinity to the DP I figured enough was enough. This was regardless of the heat shielding I have on the turbo which helps a lot.
I immediately though about venting. I knew all I needed was some airflow as it is basically nonexistent in the OEM engine bay. I don't like any of the available vented hoods, they are either too flashy or too "strakey" (if that's a word) not to mention expensive and more importantly, heavier than the aluminum OEM unit. I decided to try to vent the OEM hood in a manner that doesn't disrupt the OEM lines of the car and still provides ample airflow. Attached are some pics of the work in progress...I will post more when it is completed. And yes, the vents will end up satin black, not silver.

Hood is done. Semi-Gloss black on the grills...it looks amazing in person and the panel bond used to attach the grills is so strong that it didn't loose any strength. Super satisfied.

U do surprise me sometimes.
Do u have some pics of the underside? I'm curious to know how u tidied/finished the inside as I'm looking at venting mine too, tho a different design.

I dont have pics of the underside but can take some. I havent tidied it up yet underneath. I just have a cutout the same shape as the top and I filed all the sharp edges away. The plan is to use some of this material underneath:

So that it keeps the hood from getting damaged by heat. I will post more pics as soon as I get a chance.

In that case water would get in through the openings, no different than any other vented hood without trays. I'm not too worried about it though. I placed the openings so that 90% of the water falling in would just go on either side of the motor and end up on the ground below the car. There really is nothing in either of those areas that could get hurt by water. If for some reason I find that it is too much, I will fabricate trays to route the water or at least prevent it from hitting certain areas like most OEM vented hoods.
