Most people on here will not recommend them.
They have a pretty nasty reputation for being a chop shop.
As well as blowing up several cars prematurely from bad tuning.
Both Cobb and Corksport are highly recommended by most though.

This is slandering unless you have facts, evidence, or firsthand experience. Please do not spread rumors and/or secondhand opinions. What do you mean by chop shop? I did some research on this shop and they came recommended from Rob at Pineapple Racing. I don't work for or represent any shop related to anything Mazda related. I just hate rumors.
On a general PDX area update, here is what I have found in recent research related to FD tuning:
Pineapple racing is too busy to tune anyone's car for the most part, FD3S engineering may still be in business, but they don't return e-mails and their FB page says they aren't accepting new work. Corksport's web page has no mention I can find of any tuning or dyno work. Cobb surgeline has an archive of their dyno tunes and graphs to view (which is awesome), but there isn't one RX-7 in the database.
I have no experience yet with Trackforged (formerly known as Forged Performance), but from the e-mails I have exchanged with one of their owners, they seem like they know what they are doing when it comes to FDs.

As far as TrackForged goes, my view is to stay away. Unless you like unfused wire ran down two AN-10 fuel lines zip tied to the frame rail (lowest point of the car). Or your fuel lines not getting put on, hood not bolted down, fans hacked because brackets were install backwards. Or them switching the leading and trailing on your tune + blowing your engine. Dave is great at talking, but that's it. Their version if tuning rotaries involves tossing a map close to your car on, doing a few runs, and calling it a tune. I don't know who is tuning now, their tuner Zach just announced on facebook he was leaving.
The real problem is, there is no one else in town and it may be a risk, but I would rather see you take it there then VIP.

Sorry, I am just too busy to really be of much help.

That is a sad hack job... Any place worth driving to? Are you guys still doing tuning?

Thanks for your replies and message Marc. No need to reply to my last post.
As another update, got an e-mail back from Corksport, they do not do dyno tuning. They recommend Tom's Performance Machine. They are a muscle car shop in Vancouver, but Corksport's old install tech Jason works there and is appantly an FD nut, and can tune them. I will be calling them hoping to talk to Jason and see if he is willing to take on the tuning work.
I'm asking PSI in Hillsboro too. They have tuned at least one FD (from their web page dyno archive). I will post up another update when they reply. Hopefully this information is helpful to others with FDs in the portland/vancouver area. I know there are at least 5 of us
EDIT: Heard back from Horsepower Freaks. They said they mostly do BMWs, recommended PSI and Forged.

I gave up the E mail from PSI. Called them, they don't tune FDs. I guess the one on their webpage was a one time thing, maybe a resource that was borrowed.
I found out more about Tom's Performance in Vancouver. They don't have a way to work on a PFC, but said Jason would be happy to tune the car if I got him the cable/software. He said it would take at least 3 hours (they usually say plan for 2+, so this is a good sign at least). He is apparantly a rotary nut, and he was the tuner at Corksport 8 years wgo when they stopped dyno tuning and switched to just sales/mfg. He dyno tunes all day 5 days a week at Tom's, just not on rotaries.
I think I am going to roll the dice with Tom's. I have heard too many horror stories and only 2 good reveiews on Track Forged... Marc of FD3S could probably do a great job tuning any rotary on the street or a rented dyno, but he is too busy
Unless someone else has any other info.

Thank you for the heads up! I'll give them a call when I get the chance. Just got a fresh rebuild from atkins also!
#117
Atkins?
There was a post recommending MAXRPM in Bremerton WA, but several references to a rebuild by Atkins. Which is which? I need a rebuild, not performance tuning. Thanks!

HELP! I need a basic rebuild. Are any of these NW shops still active?
FROM THE WAYBACK MACHINE: Cash Money posted (re-posted) these shops in the Northwest. Are any of them still willing and able to do a 2nd Gen rebuild??

have you tried these guys?
1st Stop Performance offers exceptional services at reasonable prices
It's run by the son of the guy that used to have Hayes Rotary. They still do a lot of work with rotary engines. I stopped by to talk to the owner once and there were a bunch of RX-7s floating around.
